Now that the dust has settled, what say we?

I think she has exceptional versatility, and that the whole Oscars fiasco just may have been for the greater good, as it may leave her more open to outré roles in genre movies, in which she can keep delivering the wonderfully unexpected.

A few days ago I thought of an interesting real-life character for her to portray, but now I can’t for the life of me remember who it was.

Am I correct in sensing that she may be very appealing to lesbians?

A Russian chess player is under investigation after allegedly being caught on camera spraying her opponent’s board with what authorities said was a substance containing mercury as part of an attempted poisoning ahead of a match last week.

Amina Abakarova faces a possible lifetime ban and potential criminal proceedings, Russian authorities said, after the incident during a tournament in the Caucasus republic of Dagestan.

The Russian Chess Federation issued a statement Wednesday on what it said was “an attempt to poison a participant in the championship of the Republic of Dagestan in Makhachkala,” referring to Dagestan’s capital.

It said Abakarova has been temporarily suspended from all competitions under the authority of the national federation, pending the conclusion of a criminal investigation.

The statement linked out to a video of the incident shared by Baza, a Telegram news channel.

The 34-second surveillance video purports to show Abakarova walking around what looks like a room with chessboards set up for a tournament and appearing to rub something on one of the boards, before looking around and walking away.

Baza reported that the incident took place last Friday during a competition at the Chess House in Makhachkala. One of the participants who sat at the table with a board that was smeared fell ill during the tournament, Baza reported citing eyewitnesses, adding that organizers called police after reviewing surveillance video that evening.

The channel identified the woman who fell ill as Umaiganat Osmanova.

“Quentin said some sh*t about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney said. “He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Brad], and somebody else, and then this guy goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, he’s not a movie star. And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’ And I was like, ‘Since the millennium? That’s kind of my whole fµck!ng career.'”

Variety has reached out to Tarantino’s representative for comment.

Speaking about the industry at large, Clooney and Pitt said that Hollywood does not crank out movie stars the way it used to when Clooney and Pitt were rising through the ranks.

“Well, they haven’t developed stars the way the studio system used to,” Clooney said about Hollywood’s lack of stars. “We kind of were at the very end of that, where you could work at a studio and do three or four films, and there was some plan to it. And I don’t think that’s necessarily the case anymore. So it’s harder for you to sell somebody something on the back of a star.”

“But it’s a great time as a young actor,” he added from a differing perspective. “Because when I was a young actor, if you looked at the back of the L.A. Times every Monday morning they had the 64 shows that were made. And of those 64 shows, if you’re actually on one of them, you’re trying to be in the top 20 to keep your show on the air. But that was it. And then the studios were doing five films a year. Now there’s 600 shows. So there’s a lot more work for actors.”

Major League Baseball and the team issued the suspension after Duran's utterance was captured on a live telecast at Fenway Park on Sunday.

Major League Baseball and the Red Sox suspended Boston outfielder Jarren Duran for two games Monday after he called a fan a hom*ophobic slur in an outburst captured on a telecast of Sunday's game against the Houston Astros.

The unpaid suspension begins immediately, excluding Duran from Monday night's game at Fenway Park against the Texas Rangers. Duran's prorated salary for the suspended game days is being diverted to PFLAG (Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), MLB and the team said in a joint statement.

Duran made the remark Sunday night as he was at bat in the bottom of the sixth inning at Fenway. Video from the NESN telecast captured a fan heckling Duran, saying he would need a tennis racket to connect with a pitch. Duran responded by calling the man the slur.

LONDON (AP) — Five-time Olympic medalist Tom Daley announced his retirement from diving on Monday.

Daley told British Vogue magazine he had decided to call time on his career.

The 30-year-old British diver competed at five Games, making his debut at Beijing 2008 and winning gold and bronze in Tokyo, silver in Paris and bronzes at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Daley, who claimed his fifth Olympic medal in the 10m synchronised event in Paris last month, said in the interview: “It feels very, very surreal. I felt so incredibly nervous going into this, knowing it was my last Olympics.”

“There was a lot of pressure and expectations. I was eager for it to be done. But when I walked out and saw my husband (Lance) and kids (Robbie and Phoenix) and my friends and family in the audience, I was like, you know what? This is exactly why I did this.

“It was emotional at the end, up there on the platform, knowing it was going to be my last competitive dive.

“But I have to make the decision at some point, and it feels like the right time. It’s the right time to call it a day.”

Daley’s gold came in the 10m synchronised event in Tokyo in 2021 alongside Matty Lee. He was back to defend his title in Paris after being convinced by his son Robbie to return to the sport.

Daley won silver in the French capital alongside Noah Williams. China took gold.

I thought the movie would be terrible junk but it wasn’t. It was a fun popcorn blockbuster just like the 1996 film, only I found this one more enjoyable overall outside of the final twister. I like how this film is still set in Oklahoma and now they have to track tornados even harder because all that empty land that used to be Oklahoma (like we saw in the 1996 film) is now filled with apartment buildings and businesses etc. as new buildings keep getting built all over, so now that more people live in those areas it’s important to keep up with tornadoes harder.

Daisy Edgar-Jones was phenomenal. She is the true lead of the film! She is literally the first thing we see when the movie starts and the story focuses on her. Glen Powell is getting the heavy push but he has the least screentime out of the trio (Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos). The film focuses on Kate, and follows Kate. Whenever we see Tyler, Kate is there. It isn’t his film. He is also probably the weakest link of the three, but what he has over the other two is he’s a good looking white man with abs.

The film is fun though and worth the watch.

It’s a standalone sequel.

The final film of the Disney Renaissance doesn't always get the praise it deserves, but it's my favorite adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic.

Phil Collins' music adds a lot of fun, and the all-star cast—Tony Goldwyn, Minnie Driver, Brian Blessed, Rosie O'Donnell, Sir Nigel Hawthorne, Wayne Knight, Lance Henriksen, and Glenn Close— all deliver outstanding voice performances.

The animation is also exceptional, with the innovative use of Deep Canvas technology allowing 2D characters to interact seamlessly with 3D environments, creating an immersive jungle experience that feels dynamic and alive.

I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't like this movie. So, DL, tear it apart.

The VP has a way of moving into "Blackspeak" during her appearances.

A (Black) UC Berkeley linguist analyzes Kamala's speech patterns...

When she talks about things like the economy or gun control or the climate, she uses a more typical, average white politician style, in terms of her tone. It is very interesting. And in this situation, it’s not a function of talking to different audiences, because she’s just in the same debate. It’s really what she’s talking about.

She has this very occasional strategic use of casual features that are, for white Americans, just seen as really casual, but can also be what we call “camouflaged features of African American English.” This is my favorite thing. African American English is stigmatized. People call it “bad English.” They say it’s “improper.” All of this kind of stuff. But as a result, middle class and upper middle class Black people have found a way to kind of index their Blackness — highlight this part of their identities — without getting chastised for using “bad grammar.”

My favorite quote from her is from Oct. 15th, 2019, in the fourth primary debate. She said, “This is a crisis of Donald Trump’s making, and it is on a long list of crises of Donald Trump’s making. And that’s why dude gotta go.”

When she has these strong zingers, particularly against Trump, they tend to go viral.

“Dude. Gotta. Go.” Not “Dude’s gotta go.” No. For a while, her primary campaign was selling T-shirts that said, “Dude gotta go.” It became a catchphrase. When I say that she’s doing this as part of a stylistic performance, that’s what I mean. Maybe it wasn’t premeditated. She didn’t think about it ahead of time. But that became a zinger, a one-liner. And when she has these strong zingers, particularly against Trump, they tend to go viral.

The last one is with “I’ma,” which is actually the most distinctively African American of these features. She says, “Cause I’ma tell you as a prosecutor” and “I’ma tell you what I saw.”

Will the protestors sh*t all over our parade? Will there be a sort of lifetime achievement award presented to Biden complete with a special video montage? Will any cats be present?

by Anonymousreplies 6August 13, 2024 9:26 PM

I'm sick of it, I swear to God. People are so effing judgmental and nasty on Reddit, in the pet and cat subreddits. If you have any questions or seek advice about a cat's health, immediately its "go to the vet" "omg, why are you wasting time asking questions, go to the vet" "I don't care if you can't afford it, go to the vet"

Like, excuse me, how the f*ck am I supposed to pay for the vet if I don't have enough money? They certainly won't work for free, and many (at least in my town) don't offer payment plans. Then people say, "Oh, don't get a pet if you can't afford it". Guess what? I never decided to get a pet, but a few years ago a starving stray turned up in my yard, so I started feeding it and eventually it got friendly and moved in with me. He's vaccinated, neutered, wormed. I'm not rich, but I take good care of this little guy, and if it weren't for me taking him into my home, he'd still be homeless and covered in fleas. Would that be better, to just leave him homeless, or take him to a crowded shelter where he'll be put to sleep?

I agree that if you can't afford the basic things, like spaying/vaccines, then you shouldn't seek a pet, but I think it's ridiculous that people are expected to have thousands of dollars available at the drop of the hat to pay for the out-of-the blue vet bills. Most people struggle to pay rent, and you think they should have 3k instantly to pay for a MRI, plus an extra few thousand for blood tests and antibiotics?

Anyway, I asked on reddit for advice because my cat's left paw was looking a bit swollen and he was limping slightly (he's an indoor cat, so he wasn't hit by a car or anything) and oh my god, i was flooded instantly with comments calling me negligent, cruel, selfish, greedy, saying I don't deserve him. Why? because I said I wanted to wait a few days to see if the limp goes away naturally because money is tight at the moment, and I don't want to spend thousands on x-rays if the problem will resolve itself naturally in a few days. The people on reddit were like "I don't care if you can't afford it, GO TO THE VET" and "oh, if that was my baby in pain, I'd sell my car and remortgage my house to pay for her care, no excuses"

Like, WTF, calm down. I'm not going to panic like a maniac and sell my house and car on a whim, just to pay an overpriced vet. If it was super serious, like poisoning, then of course I'd try to take out a loan or something, but I'm not going to destroy my finances for a little limp that will fix itself in a few days. If he's still limping after a week/show no signs of improvement, then I will go to the vet, but I'm not going to immediately rush there right now. It's the weekend, and emergency vets cost triple the cost, so no, I'm not going to put myself in debt for a little limp. BTW, I don't believe any of those redditors would sell their cars to pay for vet bills; they're all talk and bragging.

Vets are too f*cking expensive. A person shouldn't have to be rich to have a pet. There's so many animals in shelters who will never have any kind of love/family because they have an extra 50k in the bank for emergency vet bills, instead those dogs and cats will be euthanized for no reason when they could have had good, loving homes.

A new book has shed light on a particularly heated exchange that occurred between Meghan Markle and Prince William.

According to a royal author, a disagreement between Meghan and Kate Middleton escalated into a confrontation with William after the duch*ess of Sussex allegedly made a remark about the Princess of Wales having "baby brain."

The incident reportedly saw Meghan Markle tell Prince William to "get your finger out of my face" as he attempted to intervene in the dispute.

Once speculated to be the new face of the royal family as the Fab Four, Harry and Meghan's relationship with William and Kate failed to live up to the hype, and the couple fell out of each other's good books.

The duke and duch*ess stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 to live in the US and further stifled relationships with William and Kate when they made several bombshell allegations against them in an interview with Oprah Winfrey and in Harry's memoir, "Spare."

According to the Mirror, in the new book, "Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography," author Robert Jobson weighs in on the broken ties between the two couples and recounts a particular incident in which the former "Suits" star talked back at William.

At the time, Meghan allegedly made remarks about Kate's hormones and having a "baby brain" just after she gave birth to Prince Louis.

When the four of them sat down to clear the air, the Princess of Wales reportedly demanded an apology, stating that she and Meghan were "not close enough for you to talk about my hormones."

Not liking her behavior, William accused Meghan of being "rude" for her comments, which allegedly caused Meghan to snap at the future king, saying, "Take your finger out of my face."

The report in Jobson's book is strikingly similar to Harry's account in "Spare," in which he wrote that Meghan and her sister-in-law, Kate, didn't get along.

He noted that when they sat down to iron out their differences, Kate demanded an apology from Meghan, to which she did apologize, saying that it was the way she spoke with her friends.

However, everything turned sour when William chimed in and "pointed a finger at Meg" before allegedly saying, "Well, it's rude, Meghan. These things are not done here."

Harry noted that Meghan responded, "If you don't mind, keep your finger out of my face."

You know when you wake up in the morning and your mouth absolutely stinks despite you giving your teeth a thorough cleaning the night before?

That's because during the night your mouth isn't producing much saliva and a dry mouth is a smelly mouth.

Breathing through your nose and sleeping with your mouth shut helps, but some experts for Listerine have come up with five things you can do to tackle bad breath that isn't buying their stuff.

Though, of course, they do say that if you brush, floss and wash then you should be able to stop it, but not everyone has the time to thoroughly floss.

Coined “iceberg homes” to indicate that a significant portion of living space is underground and hidden beneath the surface, these amenity-filled subterranean levels include wine cellars, home theaters, luxury gyms, and whatever else you can think of—including separate spaces for romance and intimacy. Some people even add in natural lightwells and skylights to flood the iceberg with California sunshine.

These homes were also a thing in London for years, too, among the city’s elite who couldn’t build up or out. Then, roughly five years ago, San Francisco Magazine published a story on iceberg homes. The author wrote: “In Palo Alto, as in many other affluent yet zoning-constrained enclaves around the Bay Area, homeowners are going underground…the once-lowly basem*nt has become the hottest area in home design, resulting in a flotilla of square-footage-concealing iceberg houses.”

In Los Angeles, no one calls them icebergs. And they aren’t always called finished basem*nts either, even if that’s basically what they are. Calling it a basem*nt, “that’s considered kind of lowbrow,” Ernie Carswell, a luxury real estate agent based in Beverly Hills, said. “We call it the lower level.” The Wall Street Journal once labeled them McBasem*nts, but the jury’s still out on whether the SoCal upper echelon will go for it.

Carswell could be onto something because these luxe underground configurations don’t give off damp basem*nt vibes, they’re much cooler and exemplary of Los Angeles opulence. Some house billiard rooms and wine caves, some have bowling alleys and movie theaters, some have gyms and saunas, some have bars, some have bedrooms if there are lightwells, and some are straight out of a “James Bond movie,” as Carswell put it. In all posh neighborhoods where multimillion dollar homes line the streets, “it’s luxurious to have a bunker,” Carswell said. Maybe they’re taking a page out of the Silicon Valley billionaire playbook.

It’s hard to say how much it costs to build a lavish basem*nt, or whatever you want to call it, but it can be more than $1 million. Loosely speaking, if you were to build a 2,000 square foot lower level, it could come out to about $1.5 million, said Andrew Vaitkevicius, sales and acquisitions manager for Arzuman Brothers, a luxury homebuilder. Or they could cost even more, maybe a double-digit million figure, according to Chris Pozil, a senior project manager for McClean Design, a contemporary residential design firm. It's because of how much work goes into them—the foundation, the finishing.

Vaitkevicius called the basem*nts an almost “second house,” and they’re prevalent in neighborhoods such as Bel Air, Beverly Hills, the Sunset Strip, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Toluca Lake. Arzuman Brothers is building about 20 homes in Los Angeles at the moment, and about half will have basem*nts that are fully fledged living spaces, he said. And in those neighborhoods, it makes sense because the sky’s the limit for how much you can sell for, more or less.

Tom Cruise gave the Closing Ceremony at the Paris Olympics a very Hollywood ending when he rappelled down from the top of Stade de France and into the crowd of athletes. It seemed like a picture-perfect ending to the European games as they handed it off to Los Angeles, that is sure to add a touch of Hollywood sparkle in 2028. However, not everyone was pleased with the A-list star’s presence.

Social media jumped into the conversation with mentions of Cruise’s controversial ties to Scientology, which is considered a cult in France. “How does Tom Cruise manage to be held in highest public esteem when he is a leading player in Scientology?!?! I don’t get it at all. Just remarkable,” one user on X questioned the 62-year-old star’s presence at the event. Another account added, “I love how America just acts like Tom Cruise isn’t like the icon of Scientology.” Then, of course, there are his issues with his ex-wives, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes.

The social media critic pointed out, “I’m sorry. Tom Cruise stole his adopted children from Nichole Kidman because she didn’t want anything to do with Scientology and his 2nd wife had to plan an escape from the marriage to protect her child from Scientology. THIS is who we chose to represent LA 2028 Olympics?” Even though they forgot Cruise’s first wife, Mimi Rogers, whom he did not have a family with, the point is well taken.

Still, Cruise was a huge presence during the two weeks of the Paris Games. He was seen at gymnastics events and taking selfies with fans — Cruise was doing what he does best, being a movie star. The tousle of the hair, the hop on the motorcycle with the Olympics flag — that’s all Cruise. And that moment became about him, not the athletes who spent the last two weeks competing their hearts out on the field or in the swimming pool. They didn’t seem to mind as they hugged him, grabbed video, and screamed at the mere sight of him.

And the warning was there all along. Le Parisien noted that the Church of Scientology was “more visible than ever” at the games. They built a new headquarters in April very close to the State de France and “deployed a major communication campaign during the Olympics.” The move makes Cruise’s presence seem a little more sinister because, as TMZ reported, the Closing Ceremony stunt was his idea. But we have to ask: Was it really the Church of Scientology’s idea? It makes you wonder.

A pair of polar bears attacked and killed a worker at a remote government radar site in the Canadian Arctic, the facility's operator said, marking at least the second fatal attack since last year.

The attack took place Thursday at the outpost on Brevoort Island, in Canada's far northeastern Nunavut territory, said Nasittuq Corporation, the logistics company contracted to operate the site.

"An attack by two polar bears has resulted in the loss of one of our valued employees," the company said Friday. "Nasittuq employees responded to the scene and one of the animals was put down."

The site is one of dozens of North Warning System outposts dotting Canada's far north, forming a surveillance tripwire against aircraft incursions or cruise missile attacks.

The radar coverage spans over 3,100 miles from Alaska to Labrador in eastern Canada.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues affected by this loss," the company said, adding that it was providing support to the victim's family and counseling services to other employees.

Polar bear attacks on humans are rare but the incident marks at least the second fatality since 2023.

Last year, a polar bear emerged from the impenetrable snow squall and killed a woman and her young son in in Wales, Alaska, just below the Arctic Circle. It marked the first fatal polar bear attack in 30 years in Alaska, the only U.S. state that is home to the animals.

In 2018, a 31-year-old father was killed in a polar bear attack while protecting his children in Canada. That same year, Norwegian authorities said a polar bear was shot and killed after it attacked and injured a guard who was leading tourists off a cruise ship on an Arctic archipelago.

The polar bear species is declining because of disappearing Arctic sea ice. In 2021, scientists in Norway found polar bears were inbreeding as the species fights to survive. A study found that on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, polar bear populations have seen a 10% loss in their genetic diversity from 1995 to 2016.

A 2020 study found that the melting sea ice is starving polar bears, and that within the century, polar bears could be extinct, and declining genetic diversity increases the risk of extinction.

Matty Healy is back to his old ways.

The 1975 frontman kissed a male security guard on the lips during a concert in Denmark earlier this week amid his romance with Taylor Swift.

The singer — who has notoriously made out with strangers during his band’s live shows — previously said he stopped kissing fans out of respect for the “Style” singer.

But on Friday, while performing his group’s hit “Robbers” at the 2023 NorthSide Festival in Eskelunden, Healy got on his knees and shared an intimate moment with a staff member.

Fan videos of the interaction show the security guard smiling gleefully and throwing his hands in the air after kissing the rockstar.

The crowd cheered while Healy, 34, held a bottle of champagne and pulled the security guard in for another brief embrace.

Back in January, the “Heart Out” singer told concertgoers that he was ditching the practice of making out with fans because Swift, 33, was joining him on stage.

“I’m not kissing anybody in front of Taylor Swift, have some respect,” Healy said at the time.

“In front of the queen, it’s not happening.”

Three months later, the “Chocolate” musician sparked romance rumors with the “Cruel Summer” singer after her split from Joe Alwyn came to light.

A source confirmed Healy and Swift’s relationship to the US Sun, and he was spotted at her shows in Nashville and Philadelphia just weeks later.

The Brit was even photographed watching one performance alongside Swift’s dad, Scott, before running into her New York City apartment a few nights later.

The “Love Story” singer, who is currently playing sold-out shows on the American leg of her Eras Tour, told fans she has “never been this happy.”

“I kind of feel like telling you … I’ve just never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life, ever before,” she said in the middle of a concert last month.

“And I just want to thank you for being a part of that. It’s not just the tour. I just sort of feel like my life finally feels like it makes sense.”

She also dropped a “Karma” remix with rapper Ice Spice, whom Healy recently offered a half-hearted apology to following a slew of racist remarks that were made on a podcast he was a guest on.

During a February episode of the “Adam Friedland Show,” he laughed along with Friedland and co-host Nick Mullen as they referred to the musician as an “Inuit Spice Girl” and a “chubby Chinese lady.”

“I just feel a bit bad, and I’m kind of a bit sorry if I’ve offended you. Ice Spice, I’m sorry,” Healy said during a concert in April.

Jarrett Brooks disappeared after taking his parent’s gun

He left home on the 4th of July despite being grounded

Search dogs lost his scent after tracking him through a nearby ranch

Jarrett Brooks, now 17, disappeared on July 4, 2023, after being grounded for damaging a family vehicle. Security footage showed him taking a handgun from the family’s gun safe before leaving.

Perhaps the most stunning piece of evidence was an image taken from the home security camera that showed Jarrett placing the handgun into his waistband.

The parents firmly believe Jarrett was picked up by someone after search dogs lost his scent in a nearby pasture. Laura Brooks noted the area had been extensively searched without any sign of her son.

Who was Jarrett Brooks?

Jarrett Brooks was known for his big smile and laugh, according to his father, Brian Brooks.

“[He was] the family clown,” Brian said. “He has an incredible sense of humor. He has an infectious, goofy laugh.”

Jarrett was homeschooled with his siblings but was, in many ways, still a typical teenager. He played baseball, wrestled and was always on the go.

“In the summer, he was always working on a ranch,” said Laura Brooks. “Swimming, going to the swimming pool, golfing, going to the creek with his friends.”

Like many teenagers, sometimes Jarrett also got in trouble. One of those times happened the night before he disappeared when he was grounded for damaging one of the family’s vehicles.

Responding to online speculation about potential abuse at home, Brian Brooks called such allegations “totally false,” stating that child protective services had investigated and found “this is a loving home.”

The couple concluded with a message for their son: “We love you kid. We just want to know you’re safe and you’re happy wherever you are,” Laura Brooks said.

Decades later, he is still always joking, and his husband is just like him--and they're both very funny men. But to be honest I found them exhausting to be with after a while, and was glad we don't live in the same part of the country because they can never stop being "on."

Vice presidential candidates typically receive a ratings bump after their party's convention, but JD Vance is bucking the tradition.

On the heels of last week's Republican National Convention, the Ohio senator is the least-liked vice presidential candidate since 1980, according to a polling analysis by CNN, which noted the data applies to non-incumbents.

Since 2000, vice presidential candidates typically have a net positive rating immediately following the convention, at plus 19 points. Vance, however, is polling at minus six points just one week after accepting the vice presidential nomination and officially embarking on the campaign, according to the network.

The freshman lawmaker's lower-than-normal approval ratings are not an anomaly, as Vance has long polled behind other Republicans.

Vance heavily underperformed in his 2022 Ohio Senate race, at least compared to how other Republicans performed in the state that year. Vance only defeated his opponent, then-Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, by six percentage points. In comparison, Republican Gov. Mike DeWine crushed his Democratic opponent, former Dayton mayor Nan Whaley, by 25 percentage points in that same cycle.

"The JD Vance pick makes no sense from a statistical polling perspective," CNN political data reporter Harry Enten said.

Harris' team sent out a press release gloating about the numbers.

"We'd like to be the first to congratulate JD Vance on making history as the least popular VP pick, well…ever," it reads.

The press release goes on to list some of Vance's policies, with the first one being his previous support for a nationwide abortion ban.

Ever since President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic presidential nominee, some members of Trumpworld have reportedly questioned whether Vance remains a wise vice presidential running mate. Former President Donald Trump faltered with suburban voters in 2020, and Vance's selection was widely seen as an appeal to base voters instead of one geared toward attracting more swing voters.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The great inflation spike of the past three years is nearly spent — and economists credit American consumers for helping slay it.

Some of America's largest companies, from Amazon to Disney to Yum Brands, say their customers are increasingly seeking cheaper alternative products and services, searching for bargains or just avoiding items they deem too expensive. Consumers aren't cutting back enough to cause an economic downturn. Rather, economists say, they appear to be returning to pre-pandemic norms, when most companies felt they couldn't raise prices very much without losing business.

“While inflation is down, prices are still high, and I think consumers have gotten to the point where they’re just not accepting it,” Tom Barkin, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, said last week at a conference of business economists. "And that’s what you want: The solution to high prices is high prices.”

A more price-sensitive consumer helps explain why inflation has appeared to be steadily falling toward the Federal Reserve's 2% target, ending a period of painfully high prices that strained many people's budgets and darkened their outlooks on the economy. It also assumed a central place in the presidential election, with inflation leading many Americans to turn sour on the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the economy.

The reluctance of consumers to keep paying more has forced companies to slow their price increases — or even to cut them. The result is a cooling of inflation pressures.

On Monday, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported that Americans' expectations of how much they'll spend in the next 12 months has declined — and so has their outlook for inflation. Consumers expect their spending to grow 4.9% in the coming year, according to a survey by the New York Fed. That is the lowest such reading since April 2021, when inflation was beginning to surge.

And they expect inflation to average just 2.3% over the next three years, the survey found, the lowest such figure since the survey began in 2013. Consumer expectations for inflation can be self-fulfilling: When households expect low inflation, they tend to delay some purchases in the expectation that prices won't rise much in the near future — and might even decline in some cases. This trend can keep price pressures down.

Other factors have also helped tame inflation, including the healing of supply chains, which has boosted the availability of cars, trucks, meats and furniture, among other items, and the high interest rates engineered by the Fed, which slowed sales of homes, cars and appliances and other interest rate-sensitive purchases.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Fifteen states filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against the Biden administration over a rule that is expected to allow 100,000 immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children to enroll next year in the federal Affordable Care Act’s health insurance.

The states are seeking to block the rule from taking effect Nov. 1 and providing people known as “Dreamers” access to tax breaks when they sign up for coverage. The Affordable Care Act’s marketplace enrollment opens the same day, just four days ahead of the presidential election.

The states filed suit in North Dakota, one of the states involved. All have Republican attorneys general who are part of a GOP effort to thwart Biden administration rules advancing Democratic policy goals.

The lawsuit argues that the rule violates a 1996 welfare reform law and the ACA. They also said it would encourage more immigrants to come to the U.S. illegally, burdening the states and their public school systems. Many economists have concluded that immigrants provide a net economic benefit, and immigration appears to have fueled job growth after the COVID-19 pandemic that prevented a recession.

The lawsuit comes amid Republican attacks on Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumed Democratic presidential nominee, as weak on curbing illegal immigration. Border crossings hit record highs during the Biden administration but have dropped more recently.

JD Vance briskly marched up to Air Force 2, Kamala Harris’ plane, planning to give political reporters a show as he confronted the vice president uninvited on Wednesday. His power-play dreams, like most of his chaotic veep run, were immediately thwarted once he realized Harris was not present.

“I just wanted to check out my future plane,” Vance told campaign reporters gathered on the tarmac in Wisconsin.

He didn’t get the chance to face Harris but said that he “wanted to go say hello to the vice president and ask her why does she refuse to answer questions.”

It’s unclear what questions Vance was referring to, as Harris has repeatedly pressed for Donald Trump to attend a September 10 debate that he already agreed to appear at when he was running against President Joe Biden.

Vance told a Philadelphia rally on Tuesday that he would “absolutely” want to debate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, if given the chance.

Roughly 40 minutes after the Ohio senator stormed over to confront his invisible opponent, the Harris campaign released a video set to a popular TikTok audio seemingly intended to make fun of him.

“Now I want to sit back and relax and enjoy my evening, when all of the sudden I hear this agitating, grating voice,” the voiceover says, before panning from Harris and Walz in front of their plane to the Trump-Vance plane taking off.

I hit 50 this year. I still have a sex drive but can’t interest anyone in getting with me. I’ve never had much luck but it’s worse now. I have tried apps and websites, targeted guys I thought were in my range (old, fat, average tools…basically me), been polite and forthcoming. I have some physical issues that make me particularly unappealing and which I can’t really change.

I don’t want to hire escorts, just my preference. I don’t blame anyone for this predicament except for me. I’m lucky in most other ways in life and will be fine, but this has been a thorn in my side. It’s just not in the cards for me.

I’m not really looking for suggestions about improving my chances for sex. If there are others who were forcibly retired from the kind of sex they want out there, how did you get over it and find some peace? Or is that impossible?

The Einzatzgruppen were German and German aligned groups of killers who went from town to town murdering all the Jews and Soviet political leaders. They may have shot as many as 2 million people. The leaders of these groups were executed in the USSR but lower level murderers faced no consequences. While almost all of these men have died we were wrong to allow low level murderers to go free. Here is one man happily expressing his wartime experiences. He started as a concentration camp guard and by his own admission liked the work. He was transferred to Einsatzgruppen C. Sorry for the long post but if any of these mass murderers were allowed to walk free then our justice system was broken.

The unprecedented assault entered its fourth day Friday with Moscow rushing reinforcements and bombing its own territory to try to contain the Ukrainian advance. A convoy of burnt-out military trucks, some bearing the "Z" symbol of the Kremlin’s war and appearing to contain bodies, sits along the side of a highway.

But the video, circulating on social media Friday and geolocated by NBC News, doesn’t show a beleaguered section of the front lines in eastern Ukraine. It is a village in Kursk, across the border in southern Russia.

[quote]Ms. Ellis, who was en route to the World Economic Forum in Davos, doesn’t run a Wall Street bank or a high-flying tech start-up. She is the chief executive of the nonprofit organization GLAAD, one of the country’s leading L.G.B.T.Q. advocacy groups.

[quote]The group, which has an annual budget of roughly $30 million, paid for Ms. Ellis’s trip, as well as a day of skiing, according to internal documents reviewed by The New York Times and interviews with current and former employees and others with knowledge of GLAAD’s operations.

A judge ruled Monday against independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s effort to appear on New York's general election ballot this fall.

New York Supreme Court Justice Christina Ryba invalidated Kennedy's nominating petition and directed the Board of Elections not to place Kennedy's name on the official ballot. Supreme Court is a trial-level court in New York state.

“The Democrats are showing contempt for democracy,” Kennedy said in a statement following the decision, adding, “They aren’t confident they can win at the ballot box, so they are trying to stop voters from having a choice. We will appeal and we will win.”

A Democratic-aligned group, Clear Choice Action, sued Kennedy over the New York address he claimed as his residence on ballot access petition forms. Kennedy resides in California with his wife, actor Cheryl Hines, but in testimony, he said the couple had always intended to move back to New York.

"The fact that Kennedy considers himself to be a 'New Yorker', has fond memories of the years he lived in the Town of Bedford and longs to return there someday, is utterly irrelevant to the issue of whether he resided in the spare bedroom of the 84 Croton Lake Road address during May of 2024 when he circulated and filed the nominating petition," the judge's ruling said.

I've been living in Western Mass since 2011. I'm bored. I'm pretty over it. I've aged out of the Five College scene. Got about two more years here to buckle down and then I will have my nest egg where I want it and I can pivot any which way I want. Which is a blessing and also a curse, if you are someone like me who has trouble honing big decisions.

One thing I think about, as a Missouri native who fled to the coast the day I graduated college, is the color of a state. No red states for me.

I like the Woodstock area but I think if I am going to go more rural I need it to be a super eclectic and artsy vibe, and also close to something bigger going on. Enter Pennsylvania. I have enjoyed my visits to Lancaster, Philly, Pittsburg, and York in the past. It's a gorgeous and cultured state. I know there are also hicks and weirdos abounding there, too. But it seems like generally a good state, with history, culture and nature everywhere.

And I am not gonna lie - now that Josh Shapiro is on my radar, I find Pennsylvania to be much more of a sexy pivot than, say, Connecticut. He makes Pennsylvania seem more magical than it ever was before.

Jamie Lee Curtis revealed on Kevin Hart’s SiriusXM podcast “Gold Minds” (via Entertainment Weekly) that she asks film crews to wear name tags so that everyone remains equal on her film and television sets. The Oscar winner and current Emmy nominee for “The Bear” said that her aim is to dispel the “hierarchy” that inherently exists on sets between actors and the crew since everyone already knows the actors’ names in most cases.

“There’s something really uneven about our position on a set, on a movie, in this arena,” Curtis told Hart. “You guys know our names, we don’t know yours. There’s something inequitable to me about that…On a movie set, if we were all working together, we would all be wearing name tags so that tomorrow when we came in, I would be able to then say ‘good morning [Sabine]’ without even […] thought because I’ve learned her name.”

“I just want it to be equitable because it’s an important thing,” Curtis added. “It’s art – there isn’t hierarchy in art. It’s supposed to be a group of people.”

Curtis had the crew of 2018’s “Halloween” wear name tags during production, and she told THR before the horror reboot’s theatrical release that the crew repaid the respect to her by changing all of their tags to the name of Curtis’ character, Laurie Strode, during the filming of the movie’s last scene.

“This is me shooting my last scene before I was going to fly home to be back with my family,” Curtis explained at the time. “And when I approached the set, the entire crew were standing in silent solidarity with their hands behind their backs. And everyone was wearing a name tag. And the name tag said, ‘We are Laurie Strode.'”

“What they were saying was, ‘We are with you, Jamie, in this moment. And we know there’s nothing we can do to help you as you do this moment of work alone in a pickup truck. We believe in you, because we are you,'” Curtis continued. “I gotta tell you, that may be the high point of my career.”

I just binge-watched the first season again in preparation for the new one, and it's much better than I remembered. The acting is absolutely first rate, especially Emma d"Arcy (as the adult Rhaenyra), Eve Best (as Rhaenys), and Olivia Cooke as the conflicted adult Queen Alicent. The men are excellent too, although Matt Smith is playing the same basic role as the bratty Daemon as he did as the bratty young Prince Philip (only he's slu*ttier and more murderous in this). Both Steve Toussaint (as the Sea Snake) and Fabien Frankel (as Ser Criston Cole) are very hot and do fine jobs. (We do need more male nudity, however).

The biggest problems for me are the younger actors: Alicent's children and Rhaenyra's children are not played by very good nor attractive young actors. But they will become more and more the stars of the show as it goes on, alongside their mothers. I hope they get replaced by better adult actors as they age.

The season premiere episode is entitled "A Son for a Son," which is bad news for Alicent since her son Aedmond killed Rhaenyra's son Luke at the very end of last season.

Strictly has just celebrated its 20th anniversary and the after much speculation it has been widely reported that Giovanni has SENSATIONALLY QUIT.

There's speculation about legal action from Amanda Abbington who felt bullied after pulling out and creating a DANCE DISASTER and Ranvir Singh and Laura Whitmore also had unhappy experiences on the show with Giovanni. There were also stories about his behaviour towards Faye Tozer and Michelle Visage.

There's a fine line between demanding excellence and just being an abusive twat and Giovanni has apparently crossed the line.

I wonder if Rose Ayling Ellis was different because she was always paired with a chaperone to translate?

Anyway if Giovanni does quit will the gurning ginger guy replace him or will they get a new pro in?

Celebrity wise it's Olympic year so expect a few Olympians. Tom Daley is a long standing target (just imagine Dustin's waxy face as he rubs crotches with Gorka) and the producers would be desperate for Laura Kenny although she's happy just being at home with her kids now. Maybe non lesbian lioness Steph Houghton who is retiring this summer?

Sara and Keren from Bananarama must have turned it down countless times as they'd not be up for all that work but Siobhan might be up for it. And Susan Ann Sulley from The Human League would do a great paso.

When I was 5 years old my mom asked my aunt to babysit me overnight sometime during the summer of 1978 so she could attend a Mary Kay cosmetics convention with her friend. I was excited because my aunt was nice and my cousin, Tamara, was fun to spend time with even though she was 10 years older than me. She had recently become a handful for my aunt to manage as she was suddenly rebellious at school and home. She now fashioned herself as a badass instead of the normally sweet yet sassy Tamara I knew. After mom delivered me to my aunts house I immediately wanted to find Tamara to absorb some of her teenage girl wisdom and share my pop culture obsessions with her. I knocked on her bedroom door then announced my entry, Hey she said “Hey, what’s up?” The shades were pulled and it was mostly dark in her bedroom. The soft blue glow of her Pioneer stereo receiver was a focal point. She was stretched out on her bed relaxing which I later realized was her being stoned. My senses were assaulted by the stench of marijuana and the sight of her sucking smoke out of a very tall, strange looking vase. Later in my life realized was a bong. I recall being repulsed by the odor and the sight of her smoking it. She was listening to Alice Cooper on her stereo and had this huge poster of him wrapped in a boa constrictor on her wall. I was repulsed and scared of that poster. I have an enormous fear of reptiles. I asked her if we could listen to my Cheryl Ladd album as I pulled it out of my backpack. She looked at the cover and commented on Cheryl’s cleavage saying something about her tit* hanging out of her jacket. She handed it back to me. I knew she didn’t approve. I then decided to leave her room. I was disappointed that she wasn’t fun to be with. I went into the kitchen to find my aunt . She baked some cupcakes and let me help frost them. I love frosting. Later I recall sitting at the dining room table coloring in books I brought from home. Later on after dinner my cousin made way into the living room with me tagging along behind her. She grabbed the remote to turn on the big console TV. My favorite TV show was about to come on - Wonder Woman starring Lynda Carter. I never missed an episode. I asked Tamara if she could put it on channel 4 - CBS. She said we couldn’t watch Wonder Woman because it was stupid. That hurt my feelings. I was ready to go home but had to wait until nearly noon the next day for mom to pick me up. I don’t remember what we watched on TV that evening but I kind of tuned out at that point. I must have fallen asleep and awoke the next morning. I recall quite a commotion going on inside the house, yelling and screaming because Tamara had set the backyard on fire. I remember 2 or 3 fire trucks arriving and several firemen attempting to put the fire out in the yard. My mom came to pick me up during the big ruckus. I remember looking back at the fire trucks and all of the smoke from the fire out the rear window of my mom’s Buick as we sped away. The end.

Pura Belpre amongst others and was just a nearly perfect book with amazing main characters of two teen boys (maybe) falling in love. Eva Longoria seems to be the only well known actor in the movie, I guess Ana Ortiz who usually plays the mother of Gay Latino boys was unavailable? The sequel came out last year, and may even be better that the original.

Hot straight biker who arrived at my house riding his motorcycle. When he took his helmet off, I was amazed that his pictures were accurate. He was so excited that he came within 2 minutes.

And this built gym bodied 35 year old with Prince Albert, who was supposedly a top, recognized me on the gay beach from me messaging him on Scruff to try to pimp my friend out who is a fisting bottom. Muscle guy leaned over my shoulder and said “woof”. I f*cked him in the bushes with another guy, with a crowd watching.

At least everyone had a clean ass this weekend.

Hot, but meaningless. I was filled with ennui, until I took a nap on the beach, in the sun. When I awoke, I felt a little bit better. Only a little.

When I was in elementary school we lived four houses down from the school, my teacher asked me why I didn't go home for lunch and I told her my mom tells me about the tv shows she's watched. My dad used to sleep in front of the tv and he would wake up every twenty minutes and ask "Now what is this show about?". What is up with 24/7 tv watching? I told her the other day I don't have a tv and she gasped as if I said one of my kidneys fell out.

LGBTQIA2SNB+ communities across the world will be shocked that Labour leader Keir Starmer has literally UNFOLLOWED self appointed LGBTQIA2SNB+ spokesperson Owen Jones on Twitter.

News of the dramatic unfollowing came after Owen Jones DEMANDED Keir Starmer comment on news that a man had been charged by the police for sending threats to Deputy Labour Leader Angela Rayner.

Following news of the arrests Angela Rayner issued a statement, apologising for having called Tories "scum". Within 10 minutes of her tweet Keir Starmer retweeted Rayner and offered her support, condemning the abuse she had received.

Owen Jones has been asked to clarify WHEN Keir Starmer unfollowed him and if he considers the unfollowing a hate crime. Owen Jones has previously had a close relationship with Labour leaders. He was repeatedly invited on to the BBC to defend Jeremy Corbyn's obsessional hatred of Jews, and wrote that the Conservative Party would be very worried that Ed Miliband had been endorsed by Russell Brand.

The first guy was my physical type (tall, lean, nice hair, street style) and quickly sent me a few pics of his dick. It was big and thick, and matched his physique well. I thought that was a bit forward but played along, until he sent me a video of a young WOMAN with her tit* and her nose pierced, furiously sucking him off.

Her technique was slobbery but total sh*t. It turned me off so much that I deleted him. The other younger guys never tried to initiate any interaction beyond a "hey." Am I better off trying to find a hot young f*ck buddy in the wild?

GLENDALE (CBSLA) – KTLA 5 weekend anchor Chris Burrous was found unconscious in a motel room in Glendale Thursday afternoon and later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police received a call about 1:15 p.m. from a man who said a man he was with at the Days Inn, located at 450 Pioneer Drive, had passed out and was possibly not breathing, according to Sgt. Dan Suttles of the Glendale Police Department.

Glendale firefighters responded to the scene and found Burrous, 43, inside a room and not breathing, Suttles said. CPR was administered and he was taken to a hospital where he died.

The original call to police stated Burrous may have overdosed, but detectives will await the Los Angeles County coroner’s office report for a determination of the cause of death, Suttles said.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Burrous family,” KTLA President and General Manager Don Corsini and news director Jason Ball said in a joint statement Thursday night.

@KTLA We have some sad news to report. Chris Burrous, a fixture on the KTLA 5 Morning News since 2011, passed away Thursday. He was a beloved

“Chris loved sharing the stories of Southern California and connecting with our viewers. He will be remembered as a great journalist and a wonderful friend to many. He brought a kindness to his work and will be deeply missed by the entire KTLA family.”

Police also made a statement following the announcement, using sensitivity while explaining the circ*mstances of the case.

“That was something that we recognized right away, because, you know, everybody knows Chris. So we knew that this was gonna be something that was gonna be a very sensitive matter,” Glendale police Sgt. Dan Suttles said. “We’re waiting for a toxicology report to come back from the coroner’s office. Until we get that we won’t be able to tell what the cause of death was. It is being investigated as a possible overdose.

Authorities did not release details about what paraphernalia was found inside the motel room, nor did they elaborate on the relationship of the man who was with Burrous when he was found.

Burrous joined KTLA in 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Mai Do-Burrous, and 9-year-old daughter, Isabella.

However, as I will argue, he is anything but unique. He is a garden-variety example of a particular and precisely delineated psychiatric condition. He is, sadly for him and dangerously for the rest of us, a prisoner of his psychopathology, a puppet on the strings of a set of destructive personality traits that dictate his behavior. He is at the mercy of those traits, and, by extension, so are we.

[quote]Mahoney rarely spoke publicly about his private life,[6] and he died without marrying or having any children.[35] In 2002, he said, "I was never very mature in my relationships with women. First sign of conflict, I was gone. Wouldn't discuss it, because I was afraid it would lead to an argument." This stemmed from a fear of having an unhappy marriage like the one his parents had, though Mahoney did previously have "several long-term relationships".

[quote]He was a Catholic who called Christianity "probably the most important facet of my life": before each of his performances, he would pray "Most glorious blessed spirit, I thank you for all the gifts and talents that you've given me. Please help me to use all these gifts and talents to their fullest. And please accept this performance as a prayer of praise and thanks to you". Mahoney would also say prayers upon waking up and before going to sleep daily, and would repeatedly pray "Dear God, please help me to treat everybody – including myself – with love, respect, and dignity."[36]

27 years ago today, Barbara Walters' dream of having a talk show with four 'very opinionated women' of different ages and backgrounds finally came true as the show premiered on its very first day. ABC was struggling to fill the weekday 11 am - noon hour, and Walters (with her friend, producer Bill Geddie) approached ABC with this talk show idea in 1996 and asked to take the 11 am spot. ABC was wary, and their affiliates were undecided on whether to carry the show in their top markets (Walters ended up traveling to each affiliate and arguing her case why they should carry her show - she won everyone over).

She offered Meredith Vieria, a respected journalist in her 40s, to 'moderate' the hour long discussion show. She said she always admired Meredith, and her journalistic skills.

She offered Star Jones, a 35 year old African American legal reporter a seat on the panel. She was impressed with Jones when she followed her coverage of the OJ Simpson trial on CourtTV.

Debbie Matenopoulos, a 20-something hosting a show on MTV, caught Walters' attention, and she was offered a seat on the panel to bring a 'youthful' perspective to the audience.

Joy Behar, a 55 year old comedienne from NYC was performing at a comedy club when Walters attended one of her show, and realized she needed her on the panel. Behar would rotate with Walters, 68, during the week.

The show started slowly off (Tom Selleck and Michael J Fox were two of the first guests on the show, as a favor to Walters who needed celebrities to show up and be interviewed). The show had a ratings boost three weeks later, with Walters providing live coverage of Princess Diana's shocking death in London, and her death taking over the show's discussion each day.

Since the first day, the show has gone through dozens of hosts, dozens of controversies, the departures and later deaths of Walters and Geddies, a slew of daytime Emmys, dozens of copy-cat shows, and a ratings bonanza. It's still the #1 daytime talk show as it begins Season 28 on September 2.

Clay Aiken's look-alike son Parker is all grown up.

The 15-year-old joined his dad and other family members on Tuesday's episode of "Celebrity Family Feud" on ABC.

As Aiken introduced each of his family members on the show, he said of his son, "This is my son Parker making his TV debut."

Aiken and his family -- which also included his mom, brother and Parker's mom -- faced off against music producer David Foster and his wife Katharine McPhee.

Both Aiken and McPhee are past runners-up on "American Idol," Aiken on season 2 of the hit singing competition show and McPhee on season 5.

Aiken also revealed a closer connection between the two families when he introduced his own on the show.

Parker's mom, Jaymes Foster, is David Foster's sister, according to Aiken.

"David's sister Jaymes is on the right team. She wanted to win tonight," he said, with a laugh.

Others competing on the Foster family team included Amy Foster, Adriana McPhee and Brandon Jenner.

Aiken told E! News in May that despite Parker's musical genes, he so far has not shown interest in pursuing a career in the music industry.

"He's chosen a different path," Aiken said. "He has something else he wants to do with his life. And I'm excited for him."

Aiken added that he plans to support Parker in whatever path he chooses for himself, saying, "I think you have to do your best not to make plans for them, because they will always do something different."

What a fall from grace. He was the quintessential character actor in the 1980's and 1990's: Amadeus, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Howard the Duck, Beetlejuice, Without a Clue, The Hunt for Red October, Ed Wood, The Crucible, The Devil's Advocate, Sleepy Hollow, Heartbreakers, and Deadwood.

In 2003, Jones was charged with soliciting a male minor to pose for nude photographs. Hones pleaded no contest and had several subsequent arrests for failure to update his status as a sex offender.

Tim Burton has confirmed he will not appear in the new Beetlejuice film. What a loser who wasted a good career. No sympathy.

We all knew it was coming, but still, my jaw remains on the ground. What are your predictions on this? Please — no alarmists, zero tolerance of anyone promoting violence, this is a pro-democracy, pro-peace thread from inside the US.

Mine are:

1. National Guard posted in DC starting in October, along with other Southern strongholds/state capitals.

2. Federal and LEO put on high alert, SWAT Team prep.

3. All LEO is being put toward right-wing online spying as I type this (hello NSA).

4. SCOTUS being privately threatened.

5. Thousands of lawyers are preparing election briefs now, gaming out moves ten steps ahead of Rethugs.

6. My one big hope of avoiding violence is our sheer positivity and numbers. But unless Rethug leaders denounce war, it will happen.

7. Assassins making attempts on both sides.

8. Russia will help stock riots that match what we see in England.

9. We may lose key leaders we love, but impossible to predict who.

10. No Southern governors will be arrested, though they should be.

11. White Blue Male voters will stand up against this.

12. We may lose key enemies we hate. We will try to show displays of glee.

But take heart, sweet sweet DL. We are fighting the good fight. The Union, Forever! #PeaceThroughUnity

Scandal explodes as Fabiola Yáñez, the ex-partner of former president Alberto Fernández, files a complaint against the veteran Peronist leader for allegedly beating her during his time in office.

Former president Alberto Fernández is at the heart of a damaging scandal after his ex-partner, former first lady Fabiola Yáñez, formally accused of gender violence before the courts.

Yáñez, 43, on Tuesday filed a criminal complaint accusing the former head of state of having beaten her during their relationship, which ended after he left office in 2023.

She also accused her partner and father of her son of launching a campaign of “psychological terrorism” and harassment that has seen him attempt to contact her on a daily basis.

Her lawyer, Juan Pablo Fioribello, who has previously represented both of the duo, confirmed the development.

It's an interesting movie that brings up all sorts of existential questions.

My partner and I will probably have the chance to go to a Broadway play sometime in the next couple of months. The exact dates of our trip aren't set as of yet. We know we'll be staying in a fairly new Bronx hotel for five nights, Sunday through Thursday, and that we'll be right near the subway.

I've always wanted to see a Broadway play. (I've played in the pit band for a couple of musicals that ended up travelling to theatres here, but here ain't Broadway.) We don't really mind which play we see; it's the experience of being there that we're really after. Anything more, like seeing a well-thought-of play or performer, would just be an exciting bonus. We hope someone here from New York or who's attended a play there might have the answers to a couple of questions:

- Do you have to book way in advance, or can you sometimes find something available (if you're not fussy about which play or which seats) close to performance day?

- Do you take your coats, umbrellas, etc. with you to your seat or is there a coat check?

- Are you allowed to take a small backpack in (I'd normally carry one since we'll be sightseeing in Manhattan all day beforehand)? How about a small handbag/purse?

- What about phones? (I know they have to be set to silent, at least, and I assume you can't take photos, but are you allowed to have your phone with you?)

- Do most people still dress up quite formally or is casual dress acceptable (we're assuming that jeans and sneakers would be out, but would nice slacks and sweater be appropriate)?

Thanks for your help!

As someone who hated the Bret Easton Ellis book, I am one of the few who liked the film more.

This film has a similar issue as “The Shining”, where the film strays far away from the source material, upsetting the books author. Ellis loathed this film and sh*t all over it for years, especially Andrew McCarthy and Jami Gertz. He felt they were both miscast and particularly hated Gertz in the film, feeling she gave a terrible performance. 20 years later he actually admitted he finally warmed up to the film and appreciates it, and can finally sit and watch it and enjoys it for what it is. He still feels McCarthy and Gertz were miscast but he feels the bad performance from Gertz feels less bad 20 years later than it did upon its initial release. He always loved RDJ and James Spader in the film and praises their performances to this day. He also says the film is beautiful looking with amazing ambiance (I agree).

Critics also were mixed on it. There were some who liked it and some who hated it, rarely in between. Those who hated it seemed to hate how watered down the film is from the book, but even those who hated it praised Robert Downey Jr’s performance. Most critics sang his praises, along with Spader.

There was also all the behind the scenes drama with the studio, with them hiring and letting go numerous writers as well as Directors. First, they needed someone to write a “coherent” story because they felt the book was incoherent, plus the book was way too dark and tragic to ever be sold as a mainstream film. They needed someone to tone it down to be able to commercialize it. The first writer wrote three different versions before he was fired because his scripts, despite being watered down greatly, were still too dark for the studio heads. He even took away main character Clay’s bisexuality and drug abuse and they still were not happy because he had Clay do drugs in one scene. The studio also wanted Clay to not be amoral and not be passive like he is in the books. So that was changed too.

They then hired the person who did Risky Business but they still were not happy then went with someone else who also wrote three drafts, changing the tone from dark and degrading to a story about warmth and hope and sentiment. Clay was no longer amoral and passive. McCarthy was cast as lead in hopes to bank off his new popularity with teenage girls due to Pretty in Pink. The studio felt he appeals to teenage girls but isn’t a presence who alienates older audiences so he works.

After filming was done it was tested with young people aged 15-24 and RDJ character failed with young people. His character was irredeemable originally, so they rushed to do reshoots to make RDK and Gertz’s characters more repentant as they were initially not repentant of their drug use originally, with Clay playing the straight man to their addictions. They also shot and added the opening scene where they graduate HS to lighten the mood from the start.

I went to see this film today because I am a fan of the book, and while it was a fine adaptation, it just didn’t live up to the book at all. They kept the story the same but changed a lot of details, and a lot of those small details (or large details) are important to who the characters are. Some of the changes felt silly and unnecessary.

My biggest gripe is the domestic violence is watered down too much, particularly the third time when Ryle really loses it on Lily, bites into her chest hard, digging his teeth into her like an animal and then raping her (or attempting to rape her? I need to reread that part). We see him attempt to rape her here but don’t see him bite her. We see her run out into the rain and go to her car, then go to Atlas, who then takes her to the hospital. At the hospital we see she has the bite mark on her chest. So they kept that in but didn’t show us it? Also, when he shoves her down the stairs it flashes to black right after he shoves. Let us see her fall. It honestly adds to the sympathy you feel for her and the trauma.

There are so many changes that annoyed me. I know it’s impossible to keep a film adaptation 100% loyal to the book because of timing and also some things just don’t translate well to the screen, but still. In the book Ryle eventually tells Lily about how he accidentally shot and killed his older brother when he was 6, and that explains to Lily why he is the way he is at times. That accident has affected him in a way where he still hasn’t gotten over it all these years later. In the movie he never tells her. His sister Alyssa (who becomes besties with Lily, played by Jenny Slate) is the one who tells Lily in the movie, after she’s been fully abused and confides in Alyssa. In the book Lily crawls to her phone, bleeding and in fear of Ryle waking up after he passes out on top of her after raping her. She calls Atlas and he drives from his suburb outside of Boston that is an hour drive to come get Lily and brings her back to his house. One night while hiding away there she meets his friends and it’s a sweet and fun chapter in the book. All that is erased. The magnet and letters which add to Ryle snapping that final time? Erased. It just felt so watered down.

‘I got a call yesterday saying Elon Musk was coming,’ says Thomas Straker, the infamous bad-boy chef of our time. The one with 2.5 million followers on both TikTok and Instagram; the one spotted with Princess Olympia of Greece outside her home early one morning; the one who once said his mother was so ‘concerned’ about his antics that she threatened to ‘drag me [out of my restaurant] and send me to rehab’. The one to whose Golborne Road restaurant, Straker’s, have surged all the Lola Butes, Allegra Handelsmans and Anaïs Gallaghers of this world since it opened in Notting Hill in the autumn of 2022 – not to mention platoons of salivating foodies from Australia to Andorra beating a path to the epicentre of rock’n’roll cooking. Of course Elon Musk would want to join the party.

So, in anticipation of the Tesla billionaire’s arrival, Straker reserved the table by the roaring, open kitchen – ‘my favourite, because it’s private’. Yet when the reservation time rolled around, there was no Musk. Instead, four brazen chancers turned up, chuckling at their clever ruse – one that naturally appealed to Straker’s naughty nature. ‘We should use that tactic in the future,’ he laughs, a dimple cutting through his chiselled cheek. Because this 34-year-old Old Salopian has mischief in his bones.

After 3-4 eps I’m on pause. It feels very YA and I’m not a big fan of YA fiction. Like for instance calling the apocalypse “The Great Crumble” feels like it’s purely for kids.

It also has the elite band of teenager survivors, which feels extremely YA to me.

You’ve definitely heard of the upcoming movie It Ends With Us, because Blake Lively has been promoting it nonstop for months. But you know who hasn’t been quite as visible on the press tour? The film’s other star and director, Justin Baldoni. Once the internet noticed this, it sparked a whole host of speculation that there is and/or was some kind of drama happening behind the scenes.

For some context, It Ends With Us is a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 best-selling novel. In the book, florist Lily Bloom (Lively) finds herself falling for the devastatingly handsome but abusive and controlling neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni).

We’re going to break down all the It Ends With Us feud rumors here, but be mindful that most of this is very speculative.

Looking through photos from the movie’s New York premiere, some creators on TikTok noticed that while the rest of the cast is photographed together, it doesn’t seem like anyone took photos with Baldoni. Instead, Baldoni posed on the carpet with his wife, Emily Baldoni, and some of his friends.

“I am convinced him and Blake do not get along. How is there ZERO promo of them together, and there is was no photo at the premiere,” one fan questioned on one of Baldoni’s Instagram posts. That comment section is flooded with similar questions and opinions about the alleged drama.

Lively, It Ends With Us book author Colleen Hoover, Jenny Slate, and Brandon Sklenar don’t appear to follow Baldoni on Instagram.

Asked what it was like having Baldoni as both a scene partner and a director, Slate pivoted and said that it’s a “tough job” to do both things at once, and that she, herself, wouldn’t want to have two jobs at the same time.

Plank did attend the It Ends With Us premiere, and posted about it to her Instagram Stories. However, she didn’t pose for pictures with Baldoni, and didn’t tag him in any of her posts. What’s more, they haven’t released a new episode of their podcast, Man Enough, since mid-June.

Well, Blake Lively (who is a co-executive producer on the project) recently revealed that Reynolds wrote a pivotal scene of the film. “The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it,” Lively told E! News. “Nobody knows that, but you now.” She continued, “He works on everything I do. I work on everything he does. So his wins, his celebrations are mine and mine are his.”

Well, it's been a wild ride! From a 'Marmite' Opening Ceremony - you either loved it or you hated it - to two weeks of amazing sporting action in front of packed, enthusiastic crowds in many iconic venues.

There have certainly been some performances that will live in the history books - stunning World Records from the likes of Armand Duplantis and Sydney McLoughlin, and some dominant performances from established champions such as Simone Biles, and breakout stars like Leon Marchand.

The last few days will see the track and field action wrap up - with the climax of the always spicy 4 X 400 relays. Many of the big team sports have their finals - football/soccer, basketball, volleyball and basketball.

Will Karsten Warholm bring our friend, NORWEGIAN, some relief by pulling out a win in the 400m hurdles - one of the most anticiptaed finals on the track?

Team USA will easily top the total number of medals, but are neck and neck with China for biggest gold haul. France and Britain are scrapping like hell to beat each other in both metrics in 4th and 5th places.

There aren't many details of what's planned for the Closing Ceremony, but it will have the more traditional setting of the Stade De France stadium. There are rumours that the organisers are toning down some of the planned spectacles following some of the Trumped-up hysteria that greeted elements of the Opening Ceremony.

Continue to 'oooh!' and 'aaaah!' at the amazing performances and pointlessly bitch at each other about medals tables.

We've certainly enjoyed the eye candy - the jacked, the chiseled, the ripped, the pretty, and the hung - with several breakout new 'DL Faves'.

I'll leave you to 'Czech out' Gold-winning Men's Canoeist, Martin f*cksa

In the late 90s or early 00s, I watched an episode of a tv show. I don't have much to go on. It took place with some high school kids. I remember it because one of the girls was always dressing in vintage clothing, like she would wear a 1940s outfit with a brooch to class.

What show was this? I'll try to see if I can remember other details about the show.

“This is cardboard,” he said while filming the headboard and bedpost. “As you can see, it’s like a box.”"

“A week before the Hamptons fund-raiser, on July 25, Mr. Trump stunned one of his wealthiest patrons, Miriam Adelson, the widow of the casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, by having an aide, Natalie Harp, fire off a series of angry text messages to Mrs. Adelson in Mr. Trump’s name, according to three people with knowledge of what took place.

The texts were particularly jarring because Mrs. Adelson and Mr. Trump had a friendly meeting just a week earlier at the Republican National Convention, according to a person briefed on the matter.

The texts complained about the people running Mrs. Adelson’s super PAC, Preserve America, into which she is pouring millions of dollars to support Mr. Trump.

At the time, Preserve America was spending nearly $18 million on a week’s worth of ads aiding Mr. Trump in three battleground states. The texts said that the officials running Preserve America were “RINOs” — Republicans in name only — and that Mrs. Adelson’s late husband would never have tolerated that, the people said.

According to two of the people, aides to Mrs. Adelson later discovered that the outburst against her had been encouraged by another major Trump donor, Ike Perlmutter, the former chairman of Marvel Entertainment, who had hoped in vain that Mrs. Adelson would contribute to a rival super PAC that he backs. (A lawyer for Mr. Perlmutter did not respond to an email seeking comment, and an adviser to Mrs. Adelson, Andy Abboud, declined to comment.)

The text messages prompted concerns — as yet unrealized — that Mrs. Adelson might scale back her support of Mr. Trump.”

This guy is an alien. He's doing things on the court that were never thought possible and just look completely unfair. If the NBA does not change the rules to limit his effectiveness, he will have the most dominant career ever. He seems like a very sharp and nice kid. He's already one of the top 10 players in the league in his rookie season, at least since the all-star game he's been playing at that kind of level. There's really no limit to how great he could be - Shaq looks like a little kid standing next to this guy.

I was eating a slice of pizza margherita yesterday and noted that, whenever my teeth made purchase onto one of the slabs of cheese, the entire thing would slide off the slice into my mouth.

This meant that, for a brief moment, my mouth was overwhelmed with the taste of cheese. But then, until the next slab of cheese was reached, my mouth was enjoying nothing but crust and sauce.

Is this the intended manner of consumption? Cheese feast … followed by cheese famine? Or is the cheese meant to be bitten clean through so that portions of the slab remain affixed to the crust for subsequent consumption? Because if the latter, let me assure you, the matter is easier said than done.

The all-American working man demeanor of Tim Walz—Kamala Harris’s new running mate—looks like it’s not just an act.

Financial disclosures show Tim Walz barely has any assets to his name. No stocks, bonds, or even property to call his own. Together with his wife, Gwen, his net worth is $330,000, according to areportby theWall Street Journalciting financial disclosures from 2019, the year after he became Minnesota governor.

With that kind of meager nest egg, he would be more or less in line with themedian figurefor Americans his age (he’s 60), and even poorer than the average. One in 15 Americans is a millionaire, a recent UBS wealth reportdiscovered.

Meanwhile, the gross annual income of Walz and his wife, Gwen, amounted to $166,719 before tax in 2022, according to their joint return filed that same year. Walz is even entitled to earn more than the $127,629salaryhe receives as state governor, but he has elected not to receive the roughly $22,000 difference.

“Walz represents the stable middle class,” tax lawyer Megan Gorman, who authored a book on the personal finances of U.S. presidents, told the paper.

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck go way back — over four decades back, in fact.

“We have this 43-year shared history,” Damon, 53, says of Casey, 48, and his brother Ben Affleck in this week’s issue of PEOPLE. “We grew up together.”

The Boston, Mass. natives’ “shared experience and relationship and trust and love,” as Damon puts it, is what makes collaborating on movies like The Instigators (currently in theaters and on Apple TV+ Aug. 9) such a natural process. “There's an underlying understanding of who we are,” he says.

“In our business, there's a whole language that gets created around trying to protect people's feelings because people's egos are involved,” adds Damon. He and Casey “don't waste any time on diplomacy, which I love.”

Damon’s memories of pursuing Hollywood dreams alongside the Affleck brothers in the years leading up to the Oscar-winning success of 1997’s Good Will Hunting included not being “afraid to be vulnerable with each other as young men” in Boston.

“Part of being an actor and putting yourself in those positions and getting rejected constantly — knowing that somebody else is living that same life and making those same sacrifices, that shared sense of experience, that's why we would clump up and hang out together and talk about it,” recalls Damon.

The gymnast won a second Olympic all-around title on Thursday in Paris, three years after stepping away from competing because of a mental health issue.

Simone Biles stands holding a gold medal and smiling. She is dressed in a blue U.S. gymnastics jacket. Simone Biles received her second gold medal in the Olympic Games in Paris on Thursday. JD Vance criticized Biles for withdrawing from the previous Olympics because of a mental health issue.

Senator JD Vance of Ohio, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, is drawing renewed scrutiny over his past remarks that the American gymnast Simone Biles, who won another Olympic all-around gold medal on Thursday, showed weakness when she withdrew from the previous Games because of a mental health issue.

Mr. Vance, during an appearance on Fox News in 2021, questioned why Ms. Biles was receiving acclaim for stepping away from the competition at the Tokyo games.

“I think it reflects pretty poorly on our sort of therapeutic society that we try to praise people, not for moments of strength, not for moments of heroism, but for their weakest moments,” Mr. Vance, who was running for the Senate, said at the time.

Democratic operatives were eager to call attention to the remarks now that both Mr. Vance and Ms. Biles are back in the spotlight. Aida Ross, a spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee, said on Thursday that Mr. Vance was in “no position to be talking about anyone’s else’s ‘weakest moments.’”

Great bunch, the Norwegians, but you wouldn’t like them when they’re angry. If the clues were not there from the interviews of Erling Haaland in his most petulant Borussia Dortmund days or the surprisingly cutting lyrics of mid-period A-ha, then how the nation’s newspapers have greeted the result of the men’s 1500 metre Olympic final has confirmed it. Try to avoid getting on the wrong side of anyone from Oslo.

It was billed as a two-horse race between Great Britain’s Josh Kerr and Olympic record holder Jakob Ingebrigtsen which overlooked the threat of an accomplished challenging pack. Kerr seemed to have done enough when rounding his great rival on the final bend at the Stade de France but both had reckoned without the American Cole Hocker, who snuck around Ingebrigtsen’s other shoulder and bested the despairing Kerr to clinch an unlikely gold.

Kerr brave-faced it afterwards, as is the expectation for a silver medallist, but it was harder to spin the result for Ingebrigtsen. He led the way for almost the entire race but faded so severely at the end that he did not even manage a place on the podium, being beaten into fourth.

Norway have only one bronze so far in Paris and rated Ingebrigtsen as one of their leading hopes for a medal. So, no surprise that his defeat has been greeted with disappointment, but the seething fury is unexpected. “The fact that Ingebrigtsen came fourth in an Olympic final he was supposed to win can best be summed up in three words,” wrote Aftenposten, one of the country’s largest newspapers. “Den totale ydmykelsen” (the total humiliation). Blimey.

“The biggest shock: too apple handsome,” was the headline in tabloid VG, an expression for when somebody has been overly co*cky. “With Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s sky-high level of ambition, this is of course a complete failure,” wrote Leif Welhaven, criticising Ingebrigsten’s tactical decision to go out so strongly from the front.

The satisfyingly-named Dagbladet went with “Avsløring etter fiasko” - disclosure after failure, to tee up Ingebrigtsen’s reaction. It was both sympathetic yet deeply cutting in its analysis of the race: “This was the night where he was in brilliant form. The body was light as a feather, the competitors dropped in on the last lap and then there was him; the very best, which still fell short.”

And “Idiotisk drittslenging” roared VG which translates as “idiotic bulls- - -”. This seemed especially punchy although it should be clarified that it came in the context of an extract from a Guardian liveblog criticising the trash talk between the two rivals, within VG’s overseas press round-up. An overseas press round-up much like the one you are currently reading. Who says the media is eating itself?

“It didn’t go according to plan,” Ingebrigtsen told the BBC. “I felt very strong the first couple of laps. I had difficulty telling the pace because it was quite fast. It was difficult to slow down and reduce myself. I saw I was getting a gap so kept pushing. But it was 100 metres too long today. The guys who finished in front of me did a great race. I felt strong. It wasn’t the result I wanted but yeah.”

“Of course, it’s not what I was hoping for. I can only blame myself. It’s not as fun if I’m not able to get the results I want.”

I caught Tim Alberta’s interview on Fresh Air about his book on Evangelical support for Trump, and his insights were very eye-opening. I was so into it that I parked in my driveway to finish it—classic NPR "driveway moment." If you haven’t heard it yet,, I highly recommend it.

And before anyone of you bitches tsk-tsks me:

1. YES, IT'S ANOTHER f*ckING TRUMP THREAD. Hey, asshole(s)—it’s an election year, so what do you expect? More Helen Lawson puff pieces and no political discourse!

2. Who gives a sh*t about another thread? The people reading this thread right now aren’t searching back to see a similar one. It’s one of those nitpicky DL things that f*cking drives me nuts!"

Here’s a quote that stood out:

[Quote]GROSS: And this goes along with some - what some church leaders told you, which is that some of the people in their congregations see Trump almost on a level with God. Trump has become a cult-like figure, and people almost worship him.

ALBERTA: They - he has, and they do. And of course, on its face, this makes no sense whatsoever, because here is the thrice-married, casino-owning Manhattan playboy, right? We all know the story. We know that Trump has zero familiarity himself with scripture, that he famously botched the pronunciation of a book of the Bible. And yet, at the same time, Trump emerging as this champion of the Christian right makes sense when placed in the context of this kind of apocalyptic, sky is falling, barbarians are at the gates mentality that you hear from many Christians today.

In other words, they feel as though by playing by the rules of Christianity - by turning the other cheek, by loving their neighbor - that they have given away so much ground, culturally, that they've lost, and they've lost the culture wars and they're in danger of losing the country. And so now, feeling as though they are marginalized and under siege and at the brink of extinction, almost, they have turned to someone who does not have to observe their etiquette, who does not have to play by their rules, who doesn't believe in the things that they believe. And ironically, they will tell you that that sort of gives him - Donald Trump - the freedom to do things to protect their movement and to fight against their enemies that they, themselves, would never be able to do

Singer Mary MacGregor released her 'radio edit' version of the ballad "Never Been To Me" in early 1978, as the lead single to her sophom*ore album "In Your Eyes". The single peaked at #29 on the Billboard AC Chart (it failed to chart on the Hot 100). The original lyric "I spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free" has been replaced by "I thought my heart would wait but I learned too late that it costs too much to be free." Some radio stations told the label they would never play a song with the word "whoring" in it. MacGregor had a #1 hit the year before with "Torn Between Two Lovers" which sat on top of the Hot 100 Singles Chart for two weeks in February, 1977.

In 1977, Nancy Wilson also recorded the song and released it as a single as the title track of her June, 1977 album - it peaked at #47 on the R&B charts. Singer Walter Jackson also released the single in 1977, with lyrics from a male perspective.

Charlene's re-release of the song "Never Been to Me" hit #3 in 1982 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles (it peaked at #97 when it was originally released in 1977). Scott Shannon, a Tampa DJ, found the original album and played the track on his show with the original lyrics, to which the response was overwhelming. He contacted Motown (where Charlene recorded the single in 1977) and convinced them to release it as a single again, in February, 1982.

Joaquin Phoenix has reportedly exited Todd Haynes’s forthcoming untitled gay romance just days before filming was set to begin in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 49-year-old Joker star was set to lead the new detective love story, which he also wrote the screenplay for alongside Haynes and Jon Raymond.

However, five days before production was scheduled to begin, Phoenix made the last-minute decision to drop out of the film after getting “cold feet,” a source told Variety.

Entire sets had apparently already been built by the time he abandoned the project in early July.

The Independent has contacted Phoenix and Haynes’s representatives for comment.

Produced by Killer Films and backed by sales agent MK2 Film, the movie had already been sold to international distributors. Variety further reports that the actor’s role cannot be recast, leaving the crew out of work and investors unpaid, meaning losses could surpass seven figures.

In July, Top Gun: Maverick actor Danny Ramirez signed on to play Phoenix’s love interest.

Director Haynes, best known for helming queer movies, including the Oscar-nominated Carol (2015) and last year’s May December, first teased the project in a 2023 interview with Variety. He had described it as “a love story between two men set in the ’30s that has explicit sexual content.”

Haynes added that the movie – which was set to be rated NC-17 (the highest MPA rating given to films containing material inappropriate for children under 17) – was going to feature a relationship that “challenges” audiences.

“[Phoenix] had fragments of ideas and then I started to formulate them into an actual narrative,” Haynes told the outlet, adding that “Joaquin was pushing it further into more dangerous territory, sexually.”

In February 2023, former President Jimmy Carter, then 98, announced that he would forgo further medical intervention, and instead spend the remainder of his time in hospice care at his home in Plains, Ga. Carter had been briefly hospitalized for several health reasons in recent years, including liver surgery and cancer.

At the time, homages began to roll in, as it seemed the former politician was entering his final days. But nearly a year and a half later, Carter — who is nearing his 100th birthday, in October — has defied expectations and is hoping to cast a vote for Kamala Harris this fall, according to his family.

“It is common for hospice patients to aspire to live long enough for landmark birthdays, or family events,” Angela Novas, chief medical officer of the Hospice Foundation of America, who is not involved in Carter’s care, tells Yahoo Life, “and hospice care will do everything in its power to make sure you are present for those milestones.”

Carter’s persistence has cast a new and perhaps more optimistic light on hospice — a phase of end-of-life care that many experts say is often misunderstood.

In addition to length of stay, experts say there are a lot of misconceptions people often have about hospice care.

Myth 1: Hospice is for people who have “given up.” A top misconception that people have about hospice, according to end-of-life experts, is that it means people have “given up” on their own care or their loved one’s care. “In fact, hospice is very often the opposite, and actually increases the amount of care and support available, especially for patients living at home or in home-like settings such as independent and assisted living,” Rodgers says.

Myth 2: Hospice care is for people with days to live. As Carter demonstrates, patients may have weeks or months to live.

Myth 3: Hospice care involves 24/7 bedside care by medical professionals. In fact, “the bulk of the day-to-day caregiving responsibilities remain with the family [or] private caregivers or nursing home staff,” Novas explains. Morrison adds that one of the biggest misconceptions he hears is that hospice is a place as opposed to a form of care. “[People think] that when they go on hospice, they're going to go into a building to die. And the reality is, overwhelmingly, by statute, 80% of care in hospice has to be delivered in a home,” he says.

Myth 4: Hospice accelerates the dying process. Hospice care doesn’t involve life-prolonging therapies or aggressive treatment, but “the hospice philosophy is to provide comfort and compassionate care for people living with terminal illness, for however long that may be,” Novas says.

Myth 5: Hospice is only for cancer patients. Novas says hospice care is for people “with a wide range of diagnoses.”

Novas adds that Carter’s public disclosure about beginning hospice care has ignited conversations about discussing end-of-life care — and helped dispel some of those persistent myths.

“As a nation, we watched him attend his wife Rosalynn’s funeral and participate in other events, all while receiving hospice care,” Novas says. “Mr. Carter has played a large role in helping dispel the myth that hospice is only for people whose death is imminent. What he has done to raise awareness of hospice care will undoubtedly be part of his legacy.”

At their 10th wedding anniversary “Midsummer Night’s Dream” party, they celebrated with a few dozen friends in the backyard of their 5,500-square-foot vacation home in the Hamptons.

Beautiful women in gowns watched with their handsome husbands as the couple renewed their vows near a swimming pool strewed with peonies and rose petals beneath a canopy of lights.

It was a grand public display of their perfect life and marriage. Candice Miller told a lifestyle blogger who wrote about the party that her husband’s speech “made me cry by the end with his authentic, raw emotion and romantic words.”

It all culminated in the kind of envy-inducing images anticipated by the roughly 80,000 followers of “Mama and Tata,” Candice Miller’s popular Instagram feed, which featured a near-constant stream of photographs and videos of her glittering life.

The Midsummer Night party was in 2019. Five years later, the glamorous image that Candice Miller cultivated and promoted has disappeared, replaced with heartbreak, anger and a mountain of once-secret debt.

Her husband is gone. The home they so ostentatiously lived in, saddled by several mortgages, is not truly their own. Lawsuits from creditors, business bankruptcies, botched investments and even a repossessed boat — called Miller Time — indicate that the wealth needed to maintain their lifestyle had evaporated, if it ever truly existed.

Brandon Miller, 43, died July 3 at a Southampton hospital. A suicide note indicated he had killed himself while his wife and children were on vacation on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, according to a Suffolk County law enforcement official. He said Brandon Miller wrote that a business deal he had hoped would ease the family’s financial strain had collapsed.

His family was stunned. When Candice Miller was contacted for comment, a family spokesperson said she and the children were overwhelmed by grief. “Candice is devastated by the loss of her soulmate, and her two young daughters’ lives are forever impacted by the loss of their beloved daddy,” he said.

The Millers’ downfall has become the focus of obsessive talk in the Hamptons and among internet sleuths who have scoured Candice Miller’s social media presence for clues to what went wrong.

This account of the family’s rise and fall is drawn from property records, legal filings and interviews with those who knew and worked with Brandon Miller. Because of the sensitivity of the subject, few agreed to be cited by name.

That Miller’s death occurred in the Hamptons during the height of the social season almost certainly has added to the intrigue, said Neil J. Young, a historian who is writing a book about the Hamptons. Here, the only thing as fascinating as opulent wealth is its sudden disintegration.

“This place is predicated, for a certain set, on showing off,” Young said. “It’s the homes one has, the things one does out here — from the restaurants to the workouts to the parties. But it’s a place where one can get overextended really quickly, where a house of cards can suddenly collapse.”

A chasm separated the Millers’ shimmering public lives and painful private reality. But their fall is also a source of very real grief — a story about trying to have it all and what happens when you cannot.

“What people aren’t discussing in all of this is the loss of my little brother, someone I have loved unconditionally,” Miller’s sister, Maurley Miller, said in a statement after being contacted by The New York Times. “I have a hole in my heart that will never be filled. I am completely devastated.”

This film is a German made film about Milli Vanilli. It was made and co-financed by an indie movie studio in Germany and a one in South Africa. It was filmed in Germany (Berlin and Munich) and Cape Town, South Africa.

It came out in Germany in December of 2023 to rave reviews. There were originally no official plans to release it in the states but they plan on releasing it here in August or September, but no one knows if they will do a theatrical run here or streaming. Nothing is official. It’s just “coming soon” here, no official date yet.

They have quietly released the trailer in the states today.

The casting is amazing. They look so much like Rob and Fab, it’s insane. I actually want to watch this!

by Anonymousreplies 34August 11, 2024 9:10 AM

Was it some Oscar caliber film? No. Was it perfect? Far from. But was it entertaining? Yes. It was fun. I was never not entertained.

It was stupid and silly but fun with tons of action and very fast paced. I honestly thought it was better than GOTG3, which I didn’t like.

I do understand people taking issue with the casting choices but the movie itself isn’t even that bad.

I saw the trailer for this before "Longlegs", and as a horror fan, this was off my radar completely. It seems like it came out of nowhere. The trailer is fantastic, and I'm curious about Barbara Hershey and Ed Begley Jr.'s roles (they appear to be backwoods mom and pop conspirators in the trailer). Also, Kyle Gallner looks HOT as hell in this.

I am not a big Dustin Hoffman fan, but for my money "Tootsie" is a great movie mostly because of its cast. Coincidentally, I think the "Some Like It Hot" also boasts an amazing cast. From Hoffman to Thigpen everyone does exactly what they're there for (a Pollack trademark). There are many others, so what is yours?

Victor Wembanyama is unlike any NBA prospect we've seen. This would likely still be true even if the 7-foot-4 French center never attempted a 3-pointer.

Sunday, the 19-year-old stunned in the Metropolitans 92’s game against A.S. Monaco Basket when he created a major play. Wembanyama shook his defender with a series of moves, missed a stepback 3 and then quickly followed up with the putback dunk.

Following your shot is important in the league, but it's rare to see a player of Wembanyama's stature go back up so quickly and then take off from the middle of the paint.

Regardless of how the draft order shakes out, there's a clear consensus on who will be selected with No. 1 pick, even if the "Tanking for Wemby" campaign has appeared to slow down for some teams.

Yahoo Sports' Krysten Peek has consistently listed Wembanyama at the top of her mock drafts and one of the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs have the best odds to land the No. 1 overall NBA Draft pick. G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson and Alabama shooting wing Brandon Miller are expected to go Nos. 2-3 in either order, and Miller recently declared for the draft.

Wembanyama scored 20 points in the loss on Sunday. Across 27 games, he is averaging 21 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists with no signs of shutting down ahead of the draft.

Such a moving, retrospective documentary.

Surely most of us here over 50 know this story in detail, because we lived it and were affected by it in one way or another, however, I wanted to post it for the few Gen Zers who visit DL.

Also?

Fast forward to 50:12, for proof that MANY in the GOP & even in the press, were completely heartless & beyond cruel, even back then. ESPECIALLY back then.

Gaëton appears to have been so full of life & vigor. I feel he would have been here on this forum, had he survived. I still clearly remember seeing the cover of TIME magazine, or Newsweek, with the words: PATIENT ZERO in bold print. I was still in high school, & was already hanging out with gay men & women who were either still teenagers or barely adults. It was such a frightening time.

Anyhow, if you haven’t watched this yet, I highly recommend you do.

I generally am neutral on the debate over "the Q word" though I know it's been hashed out here as passionately as rinsing one's pasta/the best mayonnaise etc.

But I found this interesting......

I have a library card with a library that uses Kindle to manage its ebook loans. Ihave to go to Amazon's website to both select the Kindle book to read, as well as return. Fair enough.

Anyway, I liked the book I read - a gay reporter meets a hot baseball player in the 1960s - well enough. A fun beach read with some serious elements. I reviewed it on Amazon and said I liked it, but thought the use of the word "queer" was a bit anachronistic. It was the 60s, after all.

A few days later I got a reply from Amazon that said my review had been rejected. Based on their email (see photo) it seems like the trigger to reject the review was the use of "queer."

Funny to reject a word that isn't supposed to be a slur.....

Maybe some queens more attuned to fashion can comment, but I've noticed she rarely varies from the same look: monochromatic pantsuit, no patterns, medium heels, very little jewelry. She always looks polished and put-together but also comfortable. The few times I've seen her in T-shirt and jeans or athletic wear she also looks great.

And maybe it's not style per se, but I love Tim Walz's "dad running to Home Depot for a few things" vibe.

Decided on a whim to check out the Steel City Con on Saturday morning.

I've always loved Molly Ringwald, so a few friends and I headed over to see if we could clap eyes on her. It was PACKED, and $50 a ticket seemed steep. Oh well. C'est la vie aujord 'hui.

Here are my thoughts

Everyone from The Breakfast Club was there except for Estevez, and they all look pretty good. Anthony Michael Hall was up and about, hugging everyone who got a picture. Ally Sheedy seemed more aloof, Ringwald was somewhere in the middle.

The 90210 people were incredibly popular. They had a roundtable discussion in a big tent in the parking lot (nicer than it sounds) that was packed. I stood in the back and listened a bit, and the fans went apesh*t every time someone talked. Tori Spelling also seemed to be having a pretty good time., laughing and talking with everyone. It was good to see Shannen Doherty up and about. Hope she got a good amount of cash.

Rosie O'Donnell and Geena Davis were both there, so charmingly enough, there were a lot of young girls dressed up as Rockford Peaches roaming around. Very cute.

Smallest lines (not to be mean) were Heather Graham and DL legend Debra Messing. At one point, they announced "Debra Messing will be leaving at 4:00, so get in line now!" That helped her a bit, but not much.

Susan Sarandon was the only celebrity not out in the open. She had her own little curtain box shielding her from the hoi polloi. That tracked.

Ernie Hudson also had a huge line all day. Again, lots of kids in Ghostbusters jumpsuits. Cute. Ad trust me, he can still get it if he wants it. A very attractive man, even up close. (Passed by him as he was being escorted somewhere)

Ian Ziering is still pretty attractive as well.

Have to say... I'd go again. The people watching is insane.

Enty Lawyer the blind item king from Crazy Days and Nights has been outed and he isn't even practicing law if he is even an actual attorney. He is a fifty something year old podcaster and blogger who is in Indio, CA, He doesn't even live in LA. He is allegedlgy a very sick person and has done horrific things to women. His whole thing where he exposes predators is rich as he is also one. I have been in communication with a woman he has done terrible things to! He recorded hours of her when they were in a "relationship" together. She found out later on that he was married with 2 daughters. He love bombed her and gaslit her into believing they were going to live together in California and get married and have children. He told her he loved her and was coming to be with her and 1 hour later she was served with stalking papers. The court saw his texts to her and said that the stalking complaints were not valid but by making the papers so public he put her at risk from her ex husband who she escaped from getting beaten by. This man needs to pay the price -- the same price he's been putting on other predators in Hollywood. Now that I know this, I know that this man knows no celebrities, is probably not a lawyer, isn't practicing law, is married with kids but victimizes other women. He got into a huge fight with his wife which somehow he left a voicemail of the other woman. His former cohost for true crime was apparently treated the same way.

Random musings:

Do we think Albee really meant the story to actually be about a pair of embittered old gays? I kind of do!

Some interesting facts about the movie:

1) The first choice for stars was Bette Davis and James Mason.

2) It was shot in black and white on purpose, despite having the budget for color. In those days, color was seen as unserious, so heavy hitting storytelling was done in black and white. It was analogous to color being comic books and black and white being novels.

3) Another reason Nichols pushed back on color was, his female star had to have the makeup applied with a trowel so she’d look like an old harridan rather than a 33 year old, and the idea of seeing that on the big screen frightened him.

4) in order to get good performances out of Burton and Taylor, Nichols was an utter c*nt to them on set, and Taylor often retired to her dressing room in tears. But the next day she was on set and ready to go! (It’s sort of amazing that a first time director treated the biggest actress in the world at the time that way.)

Ok, what do you think about WAOVW, datalounge?

The Readywise Emergency Food Bucket comes stuffed with 150 meal servings ranging from pasta Alfredo to apple cinnamon cereal for $79.99 online.

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feed fine — because Costco has an emergency dinner kit, dubbed online as "the apocalypse bucket," that lasts 25 years.

The Readywise Emergency Food Bucket boasts 150 freeze-dried and dehydrated meal servings and has caused a stir on social media. With an online price tag of $79.99, the bucket's product description boasts that it’s more than just food, it provides “readiness in the face of uncertainty."

The bucket features 80 entrees and sides, 30 breakfast servings and 40 drink servings that just need water to prepare, for a total of 25,280 calories. The meal options range from teriyaki rice, tomato basil soup, pasta Alfredo, cheesy macaroni and apple cinnamon cereal.

And, crucially for those preparing for an apocalypse, the bucket lasts up to 25 years on the shelf.

“It’s not just about survival; it’s about maintaining a sense of normalcy, comfort, and even enjoyment during challenging times,” the product description said.

The pail of preparedness went viral after Jeffrey Eisner, a cookbook author, shared a video about the bucket at his local Costco, saying, “They have buckets that they’re just calling emergency food supply … I guess this is for when the apocalypse hits, which could be any time now?”

Norah O’Donnell will cede the reins of the venerable “CBS Evening News” after the 2024 presidential election in favor of a new role as a senior correspondent who will seek out big interviews and opportunities for deeper reporting, the latest major change at CBS News after its business was merged with that of the local-TV operations of parent company Paramount Global.

O’Donnell, who recently celebrated her fifth year in the anchor chair, sees an opportunity to pursue signature interviews with top newsmakers — something that proved appealing to her after her recent sit-down with Pope Francis earlier this year.

“Together, our team has won Emmy, Murrow, and DuPont awards. We managed to anchor in-studio through COVID; we took the broadcast on the road from aircraft carriers to the Middle East, and around the world. We were privileged to conduct a historic interview with Pope Francis,” O’Donnell said in a note sent to staffers Tuesday. “There’s so much work to be proud of! But I have spent 12 years in the anchor chair here at CBS News, tied to a daily broadcast and the rigors of a relentless news cycle. It’s time to do something different. This presidential election will be my seventh as a journalist, and for many of us in this business we tend to look at our careers in terms of these milestone events.”

O’Donnell will continue to anchor all of CBS News’ major coverage leading up to the 2024 Election including the Democratic National Convention, Election Night, and more. In her new role, O’Donnell will continue to contribute to “Evening News,” “60 Minutes” and other CBS News programs. The new arrangement is understood to be part of a longer-term commitment that the anchor and CBS News are making to one another.

Still, the maneuver is part of a parade of major changes at CBS News in recent months. The national newsgathering operation was in 2021 merged with CBS’ stations, and late last year was consolidated further under the management oversight of Wendy McMahon, who also oversees CBS’ syndicated business. In July, Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, a veteran journalism executive who was named president of the Paramount Global news unit just last August, told staffers she would exit her role in favor of consulting duties; CBS has yet to name her replacement.

Under McMahon, CBS News has focused more intently on utilizing both national and local journalists for broader coverage, and recently unveiled a new “whip-around” streaming concept that relies on contributions from both the journalists at CBS News and the newsrooms at various CBS-owned local stations.

McMahon sees O’Donnell’s shift as one that will help her broader efforts. “Norah’s superpower is her ability to secure and then masterfully deliver unparalleled interviews and stories that set the news cycle and capture the cultural zeitgeist,’ McMahon said in a memo, adding: “How many people can effortlessly shift from field-anchoring on an aircraft carrier in the Red Sea to sitting down with Bono and Dolly Parton? Norah’s work here is legendary, and she has several major interviews in the works that will be equally memorable and momentous.”

And so it begins. Shortly after Elon back tracked saying he was not giving any money directly to Trump and just to his political PAC, it turns out he found a more subversive way to help him win with the use of X.

In a nutshell, after running one of their America PAC ads, they claim they can help you register to vote. But here is the dirty part, after you enter your zip code, if you come from a known solid blue state like California or NY, or red state, you get directed to back to the states website to register to vote. But if your zip code is in a battleground state, the same is not true, you get prompted to enter more personal data which is harvested by his political PAC and just says thank you, it does not tell them they still need to register to vote, it does not link them back to their state. This gives him the ability to leverage huge amounts of targeted ads across all social media directly to swing voters with pro-Trump ads without anyone knowing the wiser.

Singer Whitney Houston would have turned 61 on August 9, had she not drowned in her bathtub 12 years ago. The woman had the voice of an angel. Sad her life came to an end at 48.

One of her best songs ever released was "Miracle" her ballad single released in April, 1991. Shocking that it didn't hit the top spot on the Hot 100; it peaked at #9. Most people heard this as an anti-abortion song, though Houston denied it. She claimed she never intended an abortion / anti-abortion messages with this at all.

“I think about the air we breathe, the earth we live on. I think about our children. I think about a lot of things, things God put here for us to have, things that we need and we take for granted. I think all of these things are miracles and I think we should try to take better care of them,” she notes.

So I’ve been good lately. Having only used once in the past weeks, and it was socially I didn’t binge the entire weekend as I usually do when I use. Can you stop using cocaine cold turkey. Like I don’t have any physical urges; I just crave it mentally. I dream about it when I go weeks without using. I’ve been to rehab once before for alcohol and pills. It’s not the ideal circ*mstance to put my career on hold for a month or two but I gotta do what I gotta do.

When you watch a movie or tv show, you're just watching a bunch of edited scenes that have been put together to create a sequence of events. A scene that follows another scene in a movie might have been filmed before it. Even the characters reactions to other characters are pieced together to create an illusion of continuity.

Rue McClanahan once said that on Golden Girls, they would tape two shows in front of the audience. Then, the two shows would be fused together so that Blanche is talking to Dorothy but the Blanche you're seeing is from the first taping and Dorothy's reaction is from the second taping. Therefore Bea wasn't really talking to Rue in that scene, you just thought she was.

Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins never spoke to each other on The Silence of the Lambs set because they both delivered their lines to a camera. So Hannibal is talking to a camera and so is Clarice.

Here's a great example below of the illusions of movies with the set of Another Stakeout, a funny little comedy from 1993. Now that I know how it was filmed, I can't enjoy it anymore.

"Vance is not showing respect. Let's continue, who does he have respect for? Donald Trump, the biggest draft dodger from the Vietnam War. The rich white boy...Donald Trump was your typical rich white boy who didn't have to serve in Vietnam because he could buy his way out of it. And that's who Vance is standing with? This guy who leads from the rear?"

"I've only got a few elections to go - I'm 73 years old now. I want to be alive to see the first woman president of the United States of America and the first woman commander-in-chief, and we've got her right now."

This always seems to be a thing in television and movies where people are freaked out about the idea that their parents had sex.

My parents weren’t overtly sexual in front of us kids. But it was very obvious they had sex - and in a family of six people, it was inevitable that they would get interrupted from time to time. But no one gasped at the thought that they f*cked.

At around 1 a.m. on June 13, John Randal Tyson, the slim and boyish 34-year-old scion of the Tyson Foods empire, tried to level with the Fayetteville, Ark., police officer who just pulled him over for suspected drunk driving. “Can I ask you a genuine preference?” Tyson says in a bodycam video, one hand to his chest, perhaps in an effort to convey sincerity. “Which is, like, if I get in trouble tonight, my life will be ruined.”

The statement is not a question or a preference, and it sounds like the hyperbolic ramblings of a guy who has had too many Miller Lites (which Tyson says he was drinking that night, according to the police report obtained by Fortune). But it’s easy to understand why, in that moment, he felt doomed.

At the time, Tyson was CFO and chief sustainability officer at Tyson Foods, a $21 billion company founded by his great-grandfather and headquartered in adjacent Springdale, Ark. And his arrest in June was the second time he’d been collared for an alcohol-related crime since becoming Tyson’s chief financial officer, and the youngest CFO in the Fortune 500, in 2022.

In November of that year, just six weeks after he started the job, it was widely reported that Tyson was found sleeping in a stranger’s bed and charged with trespassing and public intoxication. (He eventually pleaded guilty and paid $440 in fines.) He was thought to be in line to become Tyson Foods’ CEO, but his two arrests in 19 months have now thrust his future at the meat processing giant into doubt.

“My life is over, man,” Tyson says in the video published online by an account called Arkansas Police Activity and labeled as University of Arkansas Police Department footage, as he awaits a breathalyzer test at the station. He tells the officer that he doesn’t hold the arrest against him: “It’s on me.” He eventually blows a .191, more than double the legal limit for blood alcohol content while driving, a detail that also matches the arrest report. “F**k!” he says, after signing a form to decline a second test.

He was able to keep his corporate job last time around, but this time Tyson Foods suspended the young executive that day and named Curt Calaway, an 18-year Tyson veteran, interim CFO, without indicating whether John Randal Tyson would return. They need a strong CFO on the job: Over the past two years, Tyson Foods has shuttered several meat-packing plants and laid off thousands of people.

The cuts are part of a so-far successful bid to return to profitability in its chicken division and to offset losses in its beef business, its largest by revenue, as it deals with inflation. It has also recently begun to call itself a protein company—producing meat, but also frozen breakfast sandwiches, deli meats, and plant-based burgers, sausages, and nuggets under various labels. Two years ago it took a minority stake in Protix, an innovative Dutch firm making insect meal used in animal feed.

But John R. Tyson’s problematic behavior raises serious questions about leadership inside his family’s Fortune 100 company, which processes an estimated one-fifth of all chicken, pork, or beef consumed in the U.S. At a time when nepotism and corporate “nepo babies” are squarely in the cultural crosshairs, how did the family justify putting a 32-year-old into the CFO job; why did it keep him there after his first arrest; and what happens next?

Expectations for billionaires have changed, says a lifelong Fayetteville resident who has ties to the Tysons but asked to remain anonymous because of the family’s influence in the region. It used to be that people reliably looked the other way when local business titans misbehaved, because families like the Tysons pour so much money into the community, he says. But people expect accountability now, he continues, and “[t]hey’re not averting their eyes.”

Searched for a thread, didn't find one yet; in any case my point is something I posted on another thread (that closed): the clip is actually interesting for apparently being from after the debate but before Biden stepped aside. Trump is already anticipating that the debate performance will drive Biden ("that old broken down pile of crap") out *and* that Harris will step in: does he mean as president, or (as happened) just as nominee? In any case, he obviously anticipates that she'll be easier for him to beat. The word was that his campaign has been stymied because they were unprepared for a campaign against anyone but Biden—but this (if I'm interpreting right) makes it look like they just didn't think they'd have to campaign against her because she would just implode on her own. Which she hasn't.

You'd think that they'd want to look their best. Sure, we all slum it and don't comb our hair or shave and wear shabby comfortable clothes.

But, even at premieres or interviews when you'd be trying to look good, a lot of actors decide to look awful.

A doctor has shared a rather bizarre way to sit on the toilet that could help if you're struggling to take a dump.

We've all been there when you feel like you need have a number two, but nothing's happening.

Lads, in particular, get a bad rep for sitting on the loo for too long but often it's a combination of doom scrolling and waiting for your bowels to produce the goods.

Not being able to poo is often a symptom of constipation and it happens to the best of us.

That's where Dr Karan Raj (@dr.karanr) comes in.

While he won't physically be there to help you poop - that would be a bit weird - the NHS surgeon has taken to TikTok to show us a different way to sit on the toilet.

"This isn’t going to solve chronic constipation issues or replace a fibre rich diet but if you’re experiencing sudden internal plumbing issues this could be your get out of poop jail free card," Dr Karan begins.

He then talks us through the bizarre toilet seat position which sees you sit with one leg over the other to 'mimic the squatting position'.

He explained: "This position changes the angle of the rectum by relaxing the puborectalis muscle which normally creates a kink in the rectum to maintain continents, i.e. it stops your poop leaking out.

"When the kink is lessened, its allows for a more direct passage of stool and optimised poop physics. This position also increases the intra abdominal pressure, allowing you to squeeze out stool like you’re a frozen yoghurt dispenser.

"Essentially the poopy yoga position means a slightly more relaxed perfect floor and less straining.

"If you’re someone that strains a lot on a regular basis that can lead to something known as dyssynergic defecation basically your body forgets how to poop properly and your pelvic floor contracts when it should be relaxing.

I feel bad for Deborah Birx.

Her entire life has been spent researching and protecting the world against AIDS. During that time, she built a reputation as being professional, intelligent, and passionate, only to be completely humiliated by Donald John Trump.

As Trump put her and Fauci on the fringes of the Task Force to make room for more malleable people like Scott Atlas, Birx took COVID prevention/education in her own hands.

She traveled by each state individually, in her own car, driving over 25,000 miles and covering 43 state capitols to educate governors and law makers.

The writing has been on the wall for some time when it comes to password sharing, with streaming services cracking down on the act heavily in the past year.

And now it seems the move is being expanded, with one of the world's largest streaming companies announcing it will be launching its own crack down - and pretty soon.

It comes after the world's largest streaming service, Netflix, brought in new updates in 2023 to ensure that subscribers can no longer share passwords.

The friendly rivalry between streaming platforms saw Amazon take a cheeky swipe at Netflix's efforts, leaving X (formerly Twitter) users in stitches.

Now, the globe's third largest streaming operator, Disney+, has confirmed when its password sharing crackdown will go live.

Robert Iger, Chief Executive Officer at Disney, gave an update on the crackdown in Disney's third quarter financial update on Wednesday (7 August).

In it, Iger said: "We feel very bullish about the future of this business. We're not saying much more about it, except you can expect that it's going to grow nicely in fiscal 2025.

"The other thing I want to add is that we've been talking a lot about adding the technology features that we need to basically make it a higher-return, higher-margin business and a more successful business. And we're doing that right now."

This morning on 'The Weekend' there was a political columnist on, who commended the fact that the hosts referred to Trump as 'ex-president' and not 'former president' as most commenters due.

She explained the difference :

Ex-Presidents are those who ran for a second term, but were voted out of office by American voters. (Trump, Bush 41, Carter). In other words, they were 'fired' from their job.

Former Presidents are those who were voted in for a second term, or those who left the Presidency by their own personal decision (Johnson, Nixon, Biden). They were never voted out of Office by the American voters. So they weren't fired, they quit on their own terms.

Michael Steele acknowledged this distinction, as he already knew it. I never knew this before - I thought 'former' and 'ex' were interchangeable. Learn something new all the time - this time, thanks to her for acknowledging Michael Steele's usage of the title.

Joe Rogan has also just announced his official endorsem*nt of Kennedy. Trump's toast.

Nick Fuentes, a controversial political pundit known for his inflammatory rhetoric, took to social media on Thursday night to express his frustrations. "Dare I say it? I am declaring a new Groyper war against the Trump campaign," he said in a video addressposted on X. The so-called "Groyper War" Fuentes refers to isa term he co-created in 2019 to rally supporters of Trumpand other right-wing individuals toward adopting white nationalist ideologies. His followers refer to themselves as "Groypers."

"You have alienated us. You have ignored us. You don't listen to our concerns. We have been left behind."

"Groypers will bring the energy, memes, edits, replies, trolls. Get with us or get the f*** out of the way," he said. The video had garnered 45,900 views by midday Friday.

Fuentes also shared his grievances in aseparate poston X, which was viewed over 2.2 million times by Friday.

He asserted that Trump's campaign had been "hijacked by the same consultants, lobbyists, & donors that he defeated in 2016," and warned that "without serious changes, we are headed for a catastrophic loss."

Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, a tech pioneer who was one of Google’s earliest employees, has died after living with lung cancer for two years, according to her husband. She was 56.

“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer,” Dennis Troper wrote in a Facebook post.

Troper said Wojcicki was “not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many.”

“Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her,” Troper said. “Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time.”

Wojcicki – who was one of the most prominent women in Silicon Valley – had been involved with YouTube’s parent company Google from its earliest days, when its two founders worked out of her garage in California to build a search engine. She later became Google’s 16th employee and had worked at the company for nearly 25 years.

Twink who went viral speaks up. The Dems must prioritize this voter group. :

[quote]Growing up in red Dunwoody, Georgia, people would be like, 'Oh, you're the Democrat kid, aren't you?' And I would tell them why, and tell them my story and how Social Security impacted me, and what Medicaid was, what Medicare was, and why we needed to elect Democrats.

[quote]I think we have a country that, in many ways, has forgotten the working class. I think work is so valuable. There's so much dignity in going to work, whatever your job is, because it's hard, and everyone who works deserves the ability to make a living.

[quote]Sometimes things don't always go right. Sometimes, your dad dies when you're a four-year-old kid, and your mom is left with two toddlers that she's got to deal with. And that's when those social safety net programs, like Social Security, that neighborliness of our country, that joy, that communal care, comes in because we should help each other. We are stronger when we help each other, not when we tear each other down.
