Does anyone have any 'first-hand' insights, on H & B Forge Tomahawks?
I am looking for a 'woods tool', to add to my 'kit', and it looks like this company has a history of making good quality items.
The one 'I think" I am liking is the "Medium Camp Axe"
In an email from Will - the owner of H and B:
"... made of 1095 high carbon steel in the bit. They are
wrapped with 1020.
On the camp axes the hammer poll is 1020"
Thanks Guys
Joe

I have used HB hawks my whole life. I won the Ohio state competition for throwing several times with them. They have a place on my belt for sure. They are also USA made, and very affordable!
I have owned.

If you're not set on H&B, consider a Cold Steel. The Frontier hawk, Rifleman's hawk, Trail hawk, etc are all great in the woods, and come at a very affordable price.

I've carried and USED that hawk for 25 years. It's my favorite. I have several axes and hatchets, if I could only have 1, I'd go with that hawk, it's been that good for me.

H&B is the gold standard of working hawks in the buckskinning community, I have several that I bought about fifteen years ago, I use them for wood prep and for throwing, I also have two of their throwing knives, one of them I moded and use as a camp knife, they make them out of leaf spring steel, they hold a good edge and really take a beating.

i've used the H&B Forge "Large Camp Axe" quite extensively for almost a year now. I like it a lot. I use it as a pack axe and it does everything from clearing branches off the trail to small camp tasks.

Don't think you can beat it for the money. A lot of throwers swear by them, and they're really well made. I wouldn't look anywhere else for a tomahawk unless I wanted something really high end.

I don't mean to sidetrack this thread, but has anyone used or seen the Franciscan hawk? That thing looks menacing, but it seems to not come with a sheath? Also, would you go with a French hawk or a French polled hawk?

My son uses H&B's Ladies' throwing hawk, and it works very well for him. It's a good, quality hawk IMO.

I don't have first hand experience with one............yet.
I ordered a medium and large camp axe 3 weeks ago, they are backed up at least 10 weeks they told me.
One will be mine, the other a gift, hopefully by xmas.

As others have stated, you really cant go wrong with an H&B. An added bonus is that it is an actual forged piece of steel, not a casting, and you wont need to worry about a socket head cap screw to keep the handle and head together......

Do the French hawks made by H and B come with sheaths? Is there an option to buy them? If not, what are you guys doing for sheaths? Thanks.
