Growing up in Southern California my sister and I spent a lot of time at grandma and grandpas house. Kari & I were lucky because our grandma made everything from scratch. Grandma’s Best Rolls Ever were definitely one of our favorites.

During the 60’s our mom was a working single mother. Grandma cooked for us before and after school. Yes we were spoiled and surrounded by a ton of love. We were lucky to have such a close family and grandparents to help take care of us.

When we got home from school, grandma’s house was always filled with the amazing smells of fresh baked cookies, meals and best of all Grandma’s Best Rolls Ever. I miss them and grandma’s cooking.

Grandma always saved a little extra dough for us to play with, no kids we didn’t have iPad’s, smart phones and only 3 TV channels, dough was fun. we would make all sorts of critters and things with the fun dough. She would often add food coloring to the dough which made it even more fun.

Bread Day Was The Best Day

On bread day, Grandma would make us flap jacks with the fresh dough. Flap Jacks are pieces of smashed bread dough fried in a ton of butter then topped with her delicious homemade jam! It was amazing.

With my love for Grandma’s best rolls ever I needed to share the recipe with all of you. I make lots of soups, stews and other dishes and these rolls complete each meal.

Grandma didn’t use rapid rise yeast, but I do and it sure makes the process faster without losing any taste. I also use olive oil instead of vegetable oil and spray on olive oil instead of butter to grease my pans.
