Apple Coleslaw – the perfect side for any barbeque. Apples mixed with coleslaw. Use it on your pulled pork sandwiches!

APPLE COLESLAW

About the only time my husband and I agree on the thermostat is when I near the end of my pregnancy. For some reason my feet are always hot and I’m guilty of ripping of my pants in an exasperated fury of hotness while watching TV. Hormones.

I remember walking barefoot everywhere as a child in Arizona and even getting blisters on my feet from running to the mailbox on the pavement in the summer. There was one summer that it reached 123 degrees. Apparently Arizona’s on track for another one of those soon.

I admit that I’ve never been one for slaw. I was enticed by the easiness of this one and the fact that it had apples in it. It can’t get any easier than this.

Apple adds a slightly different texture to traditional cabbage slaw. Try it for your next cookout.

Chill: 1 hour hr

Total Time: 1 hour hr 10 minutes mins

Servings: 10 servings

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup light Miracle Whip dressing
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 16 ounce package coleslaw mix (see Note for substitution)
  • 2 apples, 1 red and 1 green, cored and chopped

Instructions

  • Mix the dressing and honey in large bowl.

  • Add the coleslaw and apples and mix together. The mixture might seem dry but it will be plenty once the mixture has chilled in the fridge since the cabbage will release some liquid. Salt and pepper to taste.

  • Refrigerate at least one hour to let the flavors blend.

Notes

Substitute 3 cups shredded green cabbage and 2 cups shredded red cabbage for the package of coleslaw blend.

I plan on making your Apple Coleslaw for a Christmas bbq dinner. I wonder…if I make this and refrigerate overnight, will the apples turn dark? Thank you

They should be fine depending on the apples you use.

I do something similar and add crushed pineapple and maybe miniature marshmallows. When the kids were little they would enjoy this

I love the idea of adding apples to coleslaw! That sounds fantastic!

If you want to make this even better add dried cranberries, drained pineapple tidbits and slivered almonds. Let it sit in the fridge for a few hours so the cranberries plump up, YUM!

Love apples – never seen them presented like this before – but your images are just sensational – yum!

Hee, hee…I’ll be 36 weeks tomorrow and totally get the “exacerbated fury of hotness”!! My hubs was a furnace in a prior life, so we are finally in thermal sync! This slaw looks awesome and I plan to bring it to a BBQ on Sunday. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy 🙂

    Just my kind of slaw!!

We’ve made this twice in the last 4 days since my son and I devoured the first batch in a day. I did add some dried cranberries to the mix. Very good!!

I’ve made this numerous times, my family enjoys it. I’m not a fan of Miracle Whip, but it’s a must for this recipe. I suggest not substituting mayonnaise.

The addition of the honey and apples sounds wonderful!

Wow, I love this simple twist on regular cole slaw! Perfectly refreshing for summer!

I hate hot feet! Especially right before I go to bed! I will sometimes run my feet under cold water in the bathtub before I climb in bed.

I do love coleslaw though! This looks great, not too heavy in mayo and love the idea of apples in it.

I love apple anything–I often add it to my tuna salad–and so this looks fantastic to me! Thanks for the great recipe.
